Go against everything you've been told by wayfaring soothsayers, and do NOT beware The Ides of March.
George Clooney's triple-play (he wrote, directed and co-stars in the movie) comes out October 7 and touts a full cast of A-listers: Ryan Gosling, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti and Evan Rachel Wood—to name a few. We've put together the Ides clips we have at our disposal for a quick run-through of what the movie has to offer. Budding love affairs. Political analysis. Ryan Gosling once again looking handsome. Really, the movie has it all.
Ryan Gosling plays a political aide who, despite his good nature and naivete, might be getting too big for his britches. Too big to remember the name of Evan Rachel Wood, even. Although, apparently not too big for her to let it slide. There's something brewing here.
Gosling and ERW might be dancing around an exciting, youth-charged love affair, but some of the great powers of the film will lie in the hands of cinematic modern-legends Philip Seymour Hoffman and Marisa Tomei. The two cattily trade predictions about the upcoming election, bouncing theories off one another and phasing little in the line of disagreement. Ah, smalltalk.
The stakes are raised as Gosling is faced with a challenge. As we can tell from this clip, the young aide is between a rock and a hard place: self-preservation or betrayal? Paul Giamatti, playing the not-too-decent figure, seems to have his own ideas about how Gosling should handle this. But what path will the young man take? Either way, he's about to learn: that's politics.
