towerheist.jpgTwo days after news broke that Universal will release Tower Heist on video-on-demand a mere three weeks after it opens in theaters, Cinemark, the nation's third-largest theater chain, announced that it will not screen the Brett Ratner heist comedy in any of its over 300 locations, The Los Angeles Times reports. The move, which the Times calculates could cost Cinemark millions in lost box-office receipts, signals the seriousness with which exhibitors view Universal's proposed V.O.D. scheme as a threat to their bottom line. No word yet on whether other theater chains intend to follow suit.
