As most of you already know, the 2012 Grammy Awards air this weekend, meaning some of the best talent in all the world are going to be packed in together in one giant room. Sounds like a good time, right? In fact, Grammy higher-ups are even kicking things up a notch this year by selecting an actual host to orchestrate/mediate the night's events -- something that hasn't been done in seven years. Naturally, such things need to be properly promoted in order to get viewers to tune in on Sunday night. So what did the marketing committee come up with? A beatboxing session between host LL Cool J and Nicki Minaj. The proper reaction to this is: HUH?
I'm not really sure what the point of this is or if their intent was just to make it as outlandish as possible so we'd remember it, but it was pretty nutty. In no way, shape, or form did this entice me to want to see the Grammys more than I already did. In fact, it did quite the opposite and made me not want to watch the awards show at all (just kidding, I'm still totally going to watch it). But seriously, what was the point in this? Will they be rapping together on Sunday? (Minaj is scheduled to perform that night.) And did this actually air on television somewhere or is this like a spoof version of the actual (hopefully sane) promo. I have so many questions, none of which can be answered at the moment.
