If there was such a thing as Adele fever, the entire world has been suffering from it (or perhaps basking in it) since the singer's tremendously popular album, 21, hit shelves and iTunes. Now, NBC's moderate hit series Smash is proliferating its constant comparison to the Fox dramedy, Glee, with its own version of "Rumor Has It." Katherine McPhee (Karen) and her liquored up cohorts take the stage at a dive bar to deliver a sweaty disco version of the soon-to-be hit single. But can this glittery version compare to the gale force wind of emotion offered by the Glee mash-up?
In case you missed it, in the height of Adele fever, the predictably current musical series Glee hopped on the British singer's popularity train, offering up covers starting with "Rolling in the Deep." But when the series put Amber Riley (Mercedes) and Naya Rivera (Santana) at the center of a "Rumor Has It" and "Someone Like You" mashup for its 300th song, everyone took notice. The emotional pull of the ballad and the infectious bump of upbeat song combine to create a powerful, beautiful rendition that not only wowed audiences, but brought viewers deep into the emotional turmoil Rivera's character was suffering. To put it simply: it was perfect. (And it was Adele-approved!)
Now, we've got even more reason to compare both musical series. Watch the Smash version and the Glee version and stake your claim in the comments!
