'Desperate Housewives' Shocking Death: Other Surprises in Store for Finale?

Desperate HousewivesLast night, the Desperate Housewives treated its viewing public to what WOULD have been a pretty huge surprise, if not for the secret's untimely revelation during Nicollette Sheridan's trial last week. But even with the world's first court-mandated spoiler, the event was pretty shocking. If you haven't heard the news or seen the episode yet, do not read on.

The long-running series killed off one of its major characters last night: Mike Delfino (James Denton). Mike was one half of DH's principal romantic couple since the inception of the series. Mike and Susan (Teri Hatcher) have treated audiences to a relationship that, despite rocky bouts, has generally been substantial and worthy of genuine emotional investment.

Mike's death was pretty tumultuous: in light of his character's "shadiness" (as Denton put it in an interview with EW), Mike was shot and killed on his porch by a mobster loan shark. Reportedly, actor Denton will return to the show for one more episode—a funeral episode with a few original flashback scenes, to air this coming Sunday.

Fans wonder where Susan will go from here, and what other shocks are in store for the last few episodes of Marc Cherry's series. With only six episodes left to go, we can expect that the surprises, and the emotional turmoil, will only pile on up from here. Any predictions, DH fans?

Desperate Housewives final season airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
