What's Love Got to Do With It?
Everything. Love and lust are the biggest draws for a show like TVD. And Paleyfest included quite a few niblets of intel regarding everyone's favorite brotherly love triangle. So what's on the horizon for Elena and her Salvatore suitors? Plec admits that the dynamic does have a definite direction, though she was coy about where that arrow is pointing. "The love triangle is coming to a head, but maybe not the head," she said.
But it's not all about Elena - a fact Rebekah would certainly appreciate. Kat Graham (Bonnie) teased that her character would soon get a little attention of her own and that this time around, her potential love won't be so doomed. After Luca and Jeremy, Bonnie really deserves a man who sticks around - at least for a little while anyway.
Finally, nothing goes better with romance than the rage that accompanies scorn. Damon's callous dismissal of Rebekah after their steamy tryst doesn't sit too well with the original vampire. Confirming the notions surrounding a recent pic of Damon being tortured by the bombshell Brit, Plec teased the crowed, saying, "Damon does something really crappy to Rebekah and hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."
Elena: Life Before the Salvatores and Inevitable Bloodlust?
After two and a half seasons, fans are pretty eager to know a little more about these fantastic parents Elena misses so dearly. We've seen flashbacks for so many main characters, even Alaric, so it's about time we get to the dearly departed parental units. Plec says the producers are looking to go back to moment Stefan became a part of Elena's life (when he saved her from the accident that killed her parents). "We’re talking about having Elena’s life before we had vampires in it, and her parents are a part of it," said Plec. Could that be another signal that the chips may fall in Stelena's favor instead of Delena's?
And while TV's Elena has made her decision regarding any future blood-sucking, the Elena of the Vampire Diaries books eventually sprouts fangs. Naturally, fans want to know when and if this transition will occur, but Plec remains wisely coy: "We'll see," she said.
This One's For the Girls
While Season 1 Elena was a bit of a damsel in distress, her recent turn towards self-defense and unwavering bravery has driven the series into a very resolute realm of all-out Girl Power. As evil as she is, Rebekah is a strong woman; Elena's biological mother was a force to be reckoned with; and the series' latest villain, Dr. Meredith, is a powerful lady too. So it's no wonder all this "I am woman, hear me roar" content would get fans rustling about the next appearance of Katherine, the cunning lady vamp and Elena's doppleganger. Plec killed our hopes, saying as long as Klaus is in Mystic Falls, Katherine will stay miles away.
But there's still plenty of room for Bonnie and Caroline, who've both grown by leaps and bounds this season. Plec says the duo will soon start working together more and more. And while her children may have bested her once, Esther doesn't take defeat so easily. The he-woman original witch will be back - and she'll be resurrecting that plan to take out her "unnatural" children. Perhaps that second white oak
will finally come into play.
The Vampire Diaries finally returns this Thursday, March 15 at 8 p.m ET/PT.
