This is it, folks. Dancing With the Stars first elimination process finally reared its ugly, unsettling head as each contestant once again took the floor—not to dance—but to hear their fate proclaimed. As we've made clear throughout the first and second performances of the season, each and every couple has shined in their own unique ways, making this one of the most cut-throat seasons the show has ever seen. But now that they've each put their best foot forward, it's down to the voters to decide who stays and who goes.
In some ways the results were predictable, but in others they were downright shocking. We found Martina Navratilova, Gavin DeGraw, and Roshon Fegan in the bottom three, and not all of them deserved to be there.
Fegan earned a 26 out of 30 points this week, tying for the first place spot on the leaderboard. Sure, as an actual star he's not very well known, but his Michael Jackson moves and electric energy on the dance floor have allowed him to shine. The others weren't as surprising since their scores weren't nearly as impressive, but you'd think DeGraw's fame would have served as an extra boost. It just goes to show you never can tell what the votes will add up to.
But in the end, only one couple needed to be shown the door, so once DeGraw and Navratilova were announced to be in the bottom two, it was revealed that tennis star Martina Navratilova would be the one going home.
It was definitely the right decision to make, but it's still hard to see someone go so early on. However, she took the news gracefully and wished all her fellow contestants the best of luck — a class act to the very end.
That means the remaining 11 couples will live to dance another day. Be sure to check back here Monday, April 2 for the next round of performances and see who will come out on top.
