It's been quite the monumental season on Dancing With the Stars consisting of all talent and absolutely no drama. Unfortunately the same can't be said about injuries. Melissa Gilbert was forced to leave the competition in the middle of last night's round of performances after suffering an injury during her rather impressive dance routine. Host Tom Bergeron was unclear on the details of the incident during the broadcast, however, the actress has now taken to Twitter to explain what exactly happened.
"I'm alright," Gilbert assured fans on her social media account late last night. "Mild concussion and whiplash. Very soon I will be safely home resting and being taken care of." There was no obvious incident during her paso doble dance with pro partner Maks Chmerkovskiy, which earned her middle-of-the-pack marks. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba even remarked that it was her "best performance by far."
But this isn't the first DWTS injury to ever grace the dance floor. In fact, throughout the seasons many have referred to the numerous traumas as the Dancing with the Stars Curse. Jennifer Grey found herself with a ruptured disc in her lower back during Season 11 and we all remember too well Kym Johnson's serious neck injury during Season 12, proving that even the pros aren't safe from harm. Poor Maria Menounos has already suffered two broken ribs and stress fractures in her foot this season.
This is a physically demanding show, which forces contestants to push their bodies more than ever. But thankfully, it looks like Gilbert is on the mend and will be able to hit the dance floor once again — that is if she receives enough votes to make it through April 10's elimination round.
Hollywood.com has reached out to Gilbert’s rep and ABC for comment, but we have yet to hear back.
