Big-screen actor Vincent D'Onofrio is setting his sights on the tube.

The star of such films as "The Cell," "Men in Black" and "Malcolm X" is set to appear on the third installment of "Law & Order" for NBC. D'Onofrio will play a detective on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," according to the Hollywood Reporter. The new show is described as a departure from the original "Law & Order" format and will look at the crimes from the point of view of the criminals.

It isn't the actor's first venture into TV. D'Onofrio also made guest appearances on NBC's "Homicide: Life on the Street," which earned him an Emmy nomination. D'Onofrio will next appear in the feature film "The Salton Sea" with Val Kilmer and the Jodie Foster-produced indie feature "The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys."
