If there's one thing The Vampire Diaries is good at, it's knowing how to leave viewers on the edge of their seats, whether it's (SPOILERS!) killing off good-guy-turned-bad Alaric or turning Elena into the thing we all knew she'd one day become: a vampire. The show thrives on its never-ending twists and cliffhangers, making us thirsty for more. And it seems there will be some brand new obstacles in store for the characters of Mystic Falls come this fall because although they may have lost one vampire hunter, they're about to get a new one.
Entertainment Weekly reports that actor Todd Williams (mostly known for his roles in The Chicago Code and In Plain Sight) has just been cast in a recurring Season 4 role as a mysterious and powerful vampire hunter who will first appear during the show's second episode. Of course, there's nothing new about people wanting to see vampires die (the town practically invented the concept), but now that Elena falls into that category, the Salvatore brothers will once again need to protect her. The poor girl — even when she's immortal, she's still in danger.
But she's not the only one we'll have to worry about this Van Helsing-like newcomer taking down. He's sure to impose a lethal threat on any and all supernatural beings — even hybrids — which means Stefan, Damon, Caroline, Tyler, Rebekah, Elijah, and even the mighty Klaus all basically have big red targets on their backs. Yes, even in the un-dead, Elena won't find any peace, but it's one of the many things we love about the show. Get ready for the stakes to be raised (both literally and figuratively).
The Vampire Diaries will return with a vengeance on October 11 at 8 PM on The CW.
