Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise is desperate to prove his comic potential by appearing in Ricky Gervais' hit British TV show Extras.

Cruise was head-hunted by the British funnyman and creator of The Office to follow in the footsteps of Kate Winslet, Ben Stiller and Samuel L. Jackson, who have all made cameo appearances.

The 43-year-old—who notoriously didn't appreciate being made the butt of a joke when sprayed with water at the London premiere of War of the Worlds--can expect to be satirized for his devotion to controversial religion Scientology, his young fiancée Katie Holmes, and his vertically challenged stature.

Gervais recently revealed his wish list for the second season of the show, but has yet to receive many firm offers.

He says, "As far as Brad Pitt, David Bowie and Madonna are concerned, they are fans but the only one we have signed up is Tom Cruise so far."
