Meredith Vieira to Replace Katie Couric on ‘Today’ Show

TV star Meredith Vieira will replace Katie Couric as co-host of the Today show.

Vieira, one of the co-hosts of The View, announced her departure live on the show yesterday.

The teary co-host said, "I've spent nine wonderful years on this show. If you're going to grow, you have to change.

"I'm very honored that NBC has asked me to co-host the Today show. I'm thrilled."

The 52-year-old has been one of the co-hosts on The View since it debuted in 1997 and also hosts Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

On Wednesday, Couric announced she was leaving the show in May to become anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News and will also contribute to 60 Minutes.

Vieira is expected to join Matt Lauer on Today in September for a salary reportedly estimated at $10 million a year.
