ALTThe Killing lives! After several weeks of rumors, it's practically official: The critically lambasted AMC series is returning from the dead for a third season.

According to Variety, the drama series — which received a seemingly unprecedented amount of critical and fan backlash after its first season didn't reveal the culprit of the titular murder — is returning after being canceled by AMC. Executive producer/showrunner Veena Sud and fellow EPs Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin have returned to the writer's room to break stories for Season 3, which is likely to start shooting in February 2013.

Neither the network nor the studio would confirm the news, but Deadline reports that stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman are already contracted for a third year. The show is being brought back jointly with Netflix, much like when DirecTV teamed up with NBC to resurrect the beloved Friday Night Lights.
