Next Cancellation: 'Pushing Daisies'?

Nov 14, 2008 | 5:15am EST

In the past 48 hours, three high-profile TV shows have been cancelled, but the best might’ve been saved for last in this case.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, ABC’s cult hit Pushing Daisies might be on the verge of death itself.

Despite series creator Bryan Fuller’s cautious optimism, the publication reports that industry sources do not see ABC ordering any more episodes of the quirky, Emmy-nominated dramedy.

Fuller said, "Our ABC exec was on the set last night saying they are still swinging in the fight to keep Daisies on the air. Spirits are high and hopeful and everyone here is very proud of our work and this show."

But unfortunately TV is a very cut-and-dry numbers game, and the numbers for Daisies are not pretty.

Despite almost universal critical acclaim and fan devotion, Daisies has averaged just 6.6 million viewers this season, which is down considerably and places the show at No. 67 on the primetime ratings chart. Thus, as great as the show may be, its apparent cancellation shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.

If only Daisies could be revived like its characters -- or, you know, gain a few million viewers!
