You remember it well: the painfully outdated animated silhouette figures, the jazzy, up-tempo stylings of Laura Hall, the mumbled introduction by host Drew Carey — it was the happiest moment of your day (if you were a lonely nerd who went to improv camp like... um... some people). It was the beginning of an episode of Whose Line Is It Anyway?. And such glory will be known again.
The CW has announced that it will be reviving the ABC series with original cast members Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie, Wayne Brady, and the new addition of host Aisha Tyler. The official news broke following a brief mention in Thursday's Wenatchee World interview with Stiles, and a Friday morning tweet from Mochrie that read, "Oh, by the way, Whose Line is coming back. More details later."
Now that the news is a certainity, fans nationwide can unleash a celebratory hoedown, Irish drinking song, round of three-headed Broadway star, or one of those audience member serenades that always went on way too long. Hollywood.com reached out to reps for the original Whose Line cast members and Tyler for confirmation on the news.
The cult favorite series — spawned in the United Kingdom and then adopted by ABC in 1998 — is credited with popularizing improv comedy among American audiences, and can perhaps be acknowledged as one of the forerunners of today's stage comedy golden era.
But even those not inspired by Mochrie and Stiles to run off and join UCB or Second City reveled in the joys of Whose Line. While we all enjoyed the comic stylings of the show, we each had our own favorite game:
Leanne Aguilera: "Props"
Michael Arbeiter: "Improbable Mission"
Matt Patches: "Whose Line"
Abbey Stone: "Scenes from a Hat"
Kate Ward: "Greatest Hits"
Which was your favorite?
