Harris to Host the Emmys?

Jul 02, 2009 | 5:55am EDT

After his turn at emceeing the Tonys, Neil Patrick Harris is looking more and more like the go-to host du jour. Variety reports that the actor is in the midst of cutting a deal with CBS and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to host the 61st annual Emmys in September.

The How I Met Your Mother star earned rave reviews as host of the June 7 Tony Awards, which also aired live on CBS. Last year, he also hosted the Creative Arts Emmy Awards and this year hosted the TV Land Awards and the non-televised Writers Guild award ceremony.

As with most awards shows these days, pressure is on to improve the ratings and the critical reception to this year's Emmy show. Last year's Primetime Emmy Awards were widely panned for its use of five reality show personalities as co-hosts.
