Denis Leary On Puppeteering: Late Last Night

Happy post Fourth of July hangover, everyone! You’re back at work, and your hand won’t stop twitching because it’s confused as to why it doesn’t have a beer in it. I know! Times are tough. The next 4-day weekend (because none of us really did anything on Friday but still submitted time cards) comes to us in a month that’s so far away it barely exists (I think it’s September). And on last night’s Daily Show, Jon Stewart pointed out how Michael Steele, RNC Chairman and Radio City Rockette on the sly, is currently defending some statements he made about the war in Afghanistan at his July 5th vegan barbecue. He blamed the war on Obama, which is neither true nor even remotely rational. And so to clear things up, he spoke to Jon via satellite.

I’ve forgotten what it’s like to be alive when the World Cup isn’t happening. John Oliver took a break from talking to soccer players in South Africa and went out to find some of racists. His search was largely unsuccessful, because there’s actually only one racist person there. But John found him, and spent a less-than-sufficient two and a half hours with him.

And Jon talked to Denis Leary about puppeteering, and why Derek Jeter is in an ad for Rescue Me.

Poor Stephen Colbert was incredibly under the weather yesterday, but that didn’t stop him from doing his show. He is a dedicated soul, unafraid of and resistant to the same diseases that make us civilians start writing our wills and figuring out ways to prevent our little sisters from stealing our apartments upon our certain deaths. But all Colbert needs are some bunny slippers, and he’s good to go.

And Stephen talked to us about how it was reported last week that 125,000 jobs were lost. Republicans continue to filibuster extending unemployment benefits, and the democrats are out in left field catching fireflies in glass jugs. Despite his illness, Colbert asked Paul Krugman why on earth he believes extending benefits would be a great way to create jobs, especially since he’s not sick like Colbert.
