CBS Nabs Rob Riggle And Robert Smigel

Nov 19, 2010 | 4:42am EST

Rob RiggleRob Riggle is one of the nicest comedians working today. And that’s really saying something, given most comedians are really cool people. This is especially gratifying when you learn that Riggle is a Marine and has served his country overseas multiple times.

Which is why the news that CBS is developing another show for him warms the cockles of my heart. They haven’t released any information about the project other than the fact that it is being written by Robert Smigel, and his inclusion also warms the cockles of my heart. The only thing that keeps my heart from burning up is that the show is on CBS, which hasn’t had the best track record when it comes to comedies. But because I am an eternal optimist, I’m going to say this will be awesome.

Smigel is a comedic power house. He honed his skills on SNL but also worked on The Dana Carvey Show and was the original head writer for Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Also, he did all the TV Fun House stuff on SNL, which is awesome. It's surprising that he hasn’t developed a TV show of his own yet (even though he has written several that have come close to pilot), but hopefully this one will take off. Lord knows these two laugh-masters need it.
