The Firm has a better pedigree than most lawyer shows of its ilk- it is based on the 1993 film starring Tom Cruise and directed by Sydney Pollack, which was originally based on a John Grisham novel. Lucas is filling the Cruise role of lawyer Mitch McDeere, while Lewis takes the place of Holly Hunter as his secretary, Tammy Hemphill. The original role won Hunter an Oscar nomination in 1994, so it may prove a juicy part for fellow Oscar nominee Lewis.
The new series will pick up ten years after the original film left off, when McDeere and his family “emerge from isolation to reclaim their lives and their future.” Production for the series begins in August.
Lewis as not had a major role in a major series since a guest spot on My Name Is Earl in 2006, but is set to appear in a number of independent films due out next year. Lewis has also been spending her time performing with her band, The New Romantiques. I'm not entirely sure what's a better career choice- mediocre music or mediocre TV. At least TV is a regular paycheck.
