Drumroll please: the new face of evil incarnate on Parks and Recreation is Patricia Clarkson. That's right, Ron Swanson's (Nick Offerman) first ex-wife, the one who's so spine-crushingly terrifying she sends Megan Mullaly's Tammy 2 running like so many tiny New Yorkers from King Kong, finally has a face. And oh what a face it is. Though Clarkson is probably the last person we'd expect to be cast as Tammy 1, she's kind of perfect for that exact reason. Tammy 1 needs to be nothing like any one of us can imagine, and Clarkson is a fantastic actress to do it.
The actress is slated for two episodes (for now), the season premiere and one other episode. However, if she's anywhere near as fantastic as Mullaly was (though she was helped by built-in chemistry with her real-life husband), something tells me this won't be the last we'll see of the original Tammy.
And don't expect a scarier version of Tammy 2, Clarkson's character will be worlds apart according to Executive Producer Mike Schur. He told TVGuide, "We talked about pretty much every possible iteration of who she is and what her backstory is and all we knew is that we didn’t want to do the same thing we did with Tammy 2. Tammy 1 is her own specific brand of demon. I think we came up with backstory for her that’s both funny and illuminating and also answers all of the questions that you would have when seeing people’s reactions to her presence in the finale.”
September really can't come soon enough.
