This season, Fox found they had a bona fide hit on their hands. It stars a sassy star we all know and love. It includes made-up songs and some seriously misguided fashion choices. That's right, we're talking about New Girl.
While the Zooey Deschanel series is taking off, Simon Cowell's "sure-fire hit" is still sputtering on the runway. Though the music mogul was sure the X-Factor would be pulling in 20 million viewers, the numbers just aren't there. That's why Fox is taking a few drastic steps to boost their ailing singing competition -- it's just too bad that means we're going to lose our New Girl fix...for a few weeks. We were already going to endure a Glee hiatus tonight thanks to the MLB playoffs and next week when X-Factor takes over its spot on Oct. 18 and 25 for special 90-minute episodes, but as a move to nab a bigger audience, Fox is extending the X-Factor's time slot to two hours -- curbing New Girl episodes until Nov. 1. Basically, we can blame baseball and Cowell for three weeks sans showtunes, MeeMaw and hapless, goofy antics on Tuesday nights; New Girl, Raising Hope, and Glee are all on break until November.
It's an interesting move, and we're not sure if it's even going to work. They're taking away the one show that's actually working a little TV magic to make room for a show with a reality plotline that's a little too convoluted for its own good. Where's that douchebag jar when you need it?
