What To Expect When You're Watching a Pregnancy Movie

While pregnant women in movies freak out plenty about impending motherhood, no one tweaks when seeing the arrival of a bundle of joy quite like the men. Just see Kevin Bacon's impending fatherhood crisis in 'She's Having a Baby.' Then it gets even worse in the delivery room... 

Last we checked, it's the woman who endure that painful little thing called childbirth. But in pregnancy movies, like 'Nine Months,' it's the men that seem to do the most complaining. Be it discomfort that their hand getting squeezed too hard during the delivery or looking at the size of the epidural they won't have put in their back, it seems there's always room for one more baby in the room.

Most women in pregnancy movies set out to have a natural birth, like Katherine Heigl's character Allison in 'Knocked Up,' but wind up shouting for the epidural before you could say, well, "Give me the epidural!" "You did this to me!" or "Get this thing out of me!" are other phrases you'll likely hear screamed in a pregnancy movie. (Allison's scream of choice was "Get out!")

Three's a crowd for new parents, but movie delivery rooms seem to let everyone and their mother (especially in the case of 'Father of the Bride: Part II') in for the most important moment of a couple's lives. If it's not during the actual delivery, friends and family get to pour in to see the newborn almost immediately.

Women in rom-coms also seem to have insatiable appetites while remaining impossibly fit (see: Sandra Bullock in everything), but there's simply no stopping a pregnant woman in a rom com. From pickles and ice cream to eating stew straight out of the pot with your hands (see: Jennifer Lopez in 'The Backup Plan'), there's a constant craving in these movies.

Water-breaking is the go-to sight gag for just about every pregnancy movie. Not only does the medical moment happen at the most inopportune time, but there's always mass confusion. ("My water broke!" "We'll get you a new one!" Hilarity!) 'Baby Mama' was no exception: When Tina Fey's character tells an expecting Amy Poehler that her water just broke, she looks at her cup of water to see what she means.

While morning sickness doesn't always happen in the morning for pregnant women, pregnant characters will undoubtedly puke on-screen. While Katherine Heigl nearly upchucking on Ryan Seacrest in 'Knocked Up' was memorable, there was nothing quite as queasy-awesome as Juno (Ellen Page) yakking her blue slushie into her stepmom's vase.

Be it whacky doctors ('Nine Months') or overbearing friends and family ('Father of the Bride: Part II'), pregnant women in movies seem to be around folks who have even crazier mood swings. Case in point: 'Away We Go,' which surrounded Maya Rudolph with the looniest bunch of nutter butters this side of an epidural.

Really, REALLY scary.
