10 Actresses Whose Golden Globes Gowns Trumped their Oscar Fashions

All eyes were on Jennifer Aniston when she attended the 2009 Oscars since her ex Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were also in attendance. And while her shimmering Valetino gown was lovely, she would have stopped the show in the show-stopping black Valentino couture she wore to the 2010 Globes. Plus, she totally would have beat Angelina to the slinky, leg-exposing dress trend.

Before she dressed to raise eyebrows, Miley Cyrus dressed to impress, much like she did at the 2009 Golden Globes and the 2010 Oscars. While both of the dresses are surprisingly similar, her boho-inspired white Marchesa Globes dress looked a tad more age-appropriate and flattering than the white Jenny Packham Oscar gown.

Before Amanda Seyfried hit the awards circuit for her musical 'Les Miserables,' she made the rounds for 'Mamma Mia!' in 2009. And while her elegant, one-shoulder silk chiffon Stella McCartney gown that she wore to the Globes that year had fashionistas singing her praises, the giant bow masquerading as a red/orange Valentino dress that she wore to the Oscars hit all the wrong notes. Her classically beautiful Globes dress would have landed her on countless Best Dressed lists at the Oscars — but instead she chose to look like a present.

Penelope Cruz is an Oscar winner but a Golden Globes loser — except when it comes to fashion. In 2007, the beautiful 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' star looked like a cascading cupcake in her flowing, ruffly pink Versace gown, but just weeks before looked sleek and sexy in her black Armani Prive number.

Zoe Saldana went for a lot of layers and ruffles on the awards show red carpets in 2010. While her deep red Louis Vuitton dress from the Globes was just the right mix of decadence and elegance, her very busy purple Givenchy number had too many things going on at once — none of them good. The only thing more baffling about why the young, hip Hudson (who was also nominated for her work in 'Almost Famous' that year) would wear something so dowdy, is why she didn't pick a dress more akin to the one she wore to the Globes just a few weeks earlier.

In 2011, Nicole Kidman wore an overly-designed, oddly-shaped Valentino dress to the Oscars, but a year later got that kind of dress right when she wore a glamorous, detailed Versace dress to the Globes.

Consider this: Melissa Leo wore a chic, beautiful Marc Bouwer dress to the Golden Globes, but the Bouwer dress she picked for the Academy Awards looked more like a table cloth and tin foil coat hybrid than a lovely Oscar gown.

Now, don't get us wrong, Rachel Weisz looked stunning in both her Globes dress and her Oscars dress in 2007. (When doesn't she look stunning, really?) However, we're giving her the slightest edge for the glamorous red dress that she wore to the Globes over the shimmery, silver number from the Oscars.
