Our New Favorite Supermodel: Kiko Mizuhara

Kiko Mizuhara has the effortless cool-girl thing (or, as Alexa Chung would call it, “It”) down pat. We’re sure being a model for popular Japanese magazines Seventeen ViVi, and Nylon didn’t hurt; nor did her stints in the films Norwegian Wood and Helter Skelter, nor, perhaps most importantly, her time traipsing down some of the hottest runways around. She recently walked the runway for Moschino at Milan Fashion Week, and has shot campaigns with legends such as Karl Lagerfeld.

As an international model, it’s no surprise that Mizuhara has a somewhat covetable beauty look – she has a certain flawless elegance to her look: simple and understated, yet with a pop. Now, a lot of that comes down to genetics, which we unfortunately can’t replicate. But we can do our best! Plus, we’re in luck: when she’s not busy wearing intricate hairstyles on the runway, or donning precisely-applied red liner for Shiseido, her look is actually pretty darn simple.

To get a Mizuhara-inspired look, you’ll want to start with a flawless base (because her skin always manages to look perfect). Use your favorite foundation – or, if you’re feeling particularly committed, try out a BB cream (they’re all the rage in Japan, where Mizuhara hails from!). When it comes to blush, keep things natural (or skip it altogether). You’ll also want groomed brows – go ahead and pluck if they’re on the unruly side, and fill in where sparse.

For the eyes, go for a natural look by using a black or dark brown pencil to tightline along the upper lashline to create the illusion of fuller lashes. Add the barest touch of neutral shadow in the crease, a dash of mascara, and – we’re almost done – all you need now is Kiko’s signature bright lip. She tends to go for deep reds and bright pinks; anywhere from vampy garnets to Barbie pink –so go with whatever suits your mood!

Now just grab the nearest je ne sais quoi-filled outfit, and you’re good to go.
