Time and time again, the spring/summer runways usher in a decidingly simple approach to beauty. Hair is left undone and natural, nails are buffed if even touched, and skin is flushed, bare, and free of product. And, while the S/S14 shows in New York were no exception, a few designers sent surprising trends down the runway.
Lips were brighter and hair was messier.
Bold, matte lips in punchy, candy-colored shades popped up as did lush metallic shadows in warm golds and rose golds. While some designers sent super sculpted or precise deconstructed hair down the catwalk, others took a simpler approach with ‘undone’ ‘dos and deep side parts, as if the previous seasons styles had been slept in and uncombed.
The message from New York was clear: spring may be more laid back, but that doesn’t mean that statement colors, textures, and looks are taking a sideline.
