White (Hot) Shadow!

Talk about a whitewash! While hues of forest green, plum and cognac traditionally dominate fall/winter runways, this year the buzz-worthy shade was a bit of a shocker: white. The alabaster hue was even a popular makeup look parading down the catwalks at Kate Spade, Tibi, and Moschino.

When we first spotted this ivory-eyed trend, we thought it was a disaster waiting to happen. But here at BTR, we love a challenge and set out to prove how wearable white liner and shadow actually are.

We get it — the milky shade is so stark that it looks intimidating. However, it is easy to apply and extremely flattering. The pearly hue creates instant contrast that makes eye colors appear more intense and vibrant. It also accentuates the shape. Oh, and did we mention — it’s really eye-catching.

In honor of this snowy season, BTR’s resident makeup artist, Christine Cannon, shows how to wear white in two ways: as a subtle wash of color for a sexy, ethereal vibe or a denser, edgier application for a more dramatic look. Either way, it’s white hot!
