Set in 15th century Spain, young Princess Isabel finds herself torn between her two brothers -- the controlling Enrique, who is the legitimate heir to the throne, and the kindly Alfonso, who has been named King by the rebels. Determined not to be married to an unwanted suitor by the domineering Enrique, Isabel throws her support behind Alfonso. Unfortnately, Alfonso soon dies and Isabel is named queen. To everyone's surprise, she refuses the crown. Hoping to end the civil war, Isabel instead pledges her loyalty to King Enrique and signs a treaty with him, only to be double-crossed. With the help of friends, she escapes Enrique's clutches once and for all, ultimately joining her true love, Fernando, Prince of Aragon and King of Italy.
