Broadcasting standards officials in the U.S. have launched an investigation over allegations Miley Cyrus' recent concert special was unsuitable for primetime TV. Officials at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) were inundated with viewer complaints after Miley Cyrus: Bangerz Tour aired last month (Jul14), during the Independence Day holiday weekend.
The show, featuring footage from the pop star's provocative new tour, was considered a ratings flop as it only brought in 2.2 million viewers, but now it could spell further trouble for network executives at NBC amid concerns they allowed obscenity on air.
According to TMZ.com, a slew of viewers voiced concerns about Cyrus' revealing, barely-there costumes and her behaviour onstage, including frolicking in a bed with half-naked male and female dancers and grinding against a man dressed up as former U.S. President and civil rights icon Abraham Lincoln.
FCC representatives are now looking into the issue to determine if the show violated its rules on broadcasting "sexual or excretory activity", which could land NBC bosses a hefty fine.
Singer Cee Lo Green is the latest musician to cancel an upcoming gig in Israel due to political unrest in the region. The Forget You hitmaker was slated to play a concert in Jerusalem on 19 August (14), but has decided to follow suit with artists such as Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Paul Anka and Backstreet Boys in calling the gig off.
Israel show promoter Carmi D. Wurtman confirms the cancellation to The Hollywood Reporter and says, "The artist and his crew really wanted to come, but unfortunately we were the ones who had to postpone it because this is not the right time to advertise and push a concert and also because Israel Defense Forces' regional Home Front Command allows gathering of up to a thousand people only."
Plans are underway to reschedule the concert at the city's Independence Park for this autumn (14).
The upcoming Hadera River Park's BoomBox Festival, featuring headliner Wyclef Jean, has also been delayed, but thrash-metal band Megadeth have decided to go on with their concert on Wednesday (06Aug14) at Tel Aviv's convention centre.

R&B star Chris Brown has reportedly split from his on/off girlfriend Karrueche Tran once again, just weeks after reuniting following his two-month stint behind bars.
The Kiss Kiss hitmaker walked free from jail on 2 June (14) after admitting to breaking the terms of his 2009 probation by getting kicked out of a court-ordered rehab programme.
Tran celebrated his release by throwing him a star-studded surprise party and she accompanied her beau as his date to the BET Awards in Los Angeles on 29 June (14).
They spent America's Independence Day holiday together on Friday (04Jul14), when Brown uploaded a raunchy snap of Tran lying face down on a bed wearing nothing but a bra and a skimpy thong, baring her backside, to his more than 3.7 million followers.
However, it appears their romance has since soured, prompting both Brown and Tran to delete all photos of the couple from its Instagram.com accounts and 'unfollow' one another.
Tran hinted at the break-up on Sunday (06Jul14) with a cryptic post that read: "Love what you have before life teaches you to love what you lost". She followed it up with a Buddha quote which stated, "In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you."
In the accompanying caption, she simply wrote, "Well.."
The former couple began dating in 2011, two years after Brown was convicted of assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna on the eve of the Grammy Awards in 2009.
He and Tran split in 2012 as he attempted to rekindle his relationship with the Umbrella beauty, but he reconciled with the model in 2013. They parted ways again in early March (14), only to pick their romance back up weeks later.
Miley Cyrus' behind-the-scenes TV tour special failed to find an audience when it aired in America on Sunday night (06Jul14), scoring just two million viewers.
The two-hour documentary, titled Miley Cyrus: Bangerz Tour, gave fans an all-access pass to her global trek and featured exclusive backstage footage with the Wrecking Ball hitmaker, her siblings and co-stars on the road, as well as performances of tracks such as We Can't Stop and Party in the U.S.A. from her recent gigs in Barcelona, Spain and Lisbon, Portugal.
Cyrus was also shown dedicating her track Adore You to her beloved dog Floyd, who passed away in April (14).
Ratings were expected to be lower than normal due to the U.S. Independence Day holiday weekend (begs04Jul14), but Cyrus' TV special was among the lowest-rated and least-watched programmes of the night, according to early figures released by bosses at data firm Nielsen.
It proved to be less popular than new talent show Rising Star, which drew 4.32 million viewers in the same time slot, while repeats of Family Guy and American Dad both attracted more than 2.4 million viewers each.
Rapper Rich Homie Quan has been caught on camera appearing to slap a fan during a concert in Wisconsin last week (ends04Jul14). The hip-hop star celebrated America's Independence Day holiday by performing at the 3 Monkeys venue in Racine on Friday (04Jul14), but he halted the show after one overzealous man attempted to grab his arm.
Quan was filmed allegedly lashing out at the male, before stopping the music and addressing the incident, telling the crowd, "I thought he was trying to shake my hand. N**ga trying to get onstage (sic)."
It's not the first time a violent incident has taken place at Quan's concerts - two males were shot dead during a March (14) show in New Orleans, Louisiana, while a pair of fans were injured at a gig in Missouri in January (14), just weeks after another devotee was killed in Ohio in December (13).
Rapper Kanye West treated guests at a London club to a special preview of his new material on Sunday night (06Jul14) after wrapping his third set at the U.K.'s Wireless Festival.
The Stronger hitmaker performed at the Birmingham leg of the annual event on Sunday and returned to London after the show to DJ a private bash, where he decided to showcase his latest music.
According to reports, West debuted around 20 tracks during his lengthy set, with one guest, Jason Powell, describing the new songs as "dark", "hellish (sic)" and "groundshaking".
West spent America's Independence Day weekend (04-06Jul14) as the headlining act for the entire Wireless Festival, pulling double duty at the London dates of event on Friday (04Jul14) and Saturday (05Jul14) after fellow rapper Drake cancelled due to illness.
However, both of the London shows were blighted by booing from the crowd after West launched into his usual rambling monologue about life in the public eye, and at Sunday's concert in Birmingham, he admitted the negative reactions had "hurt" his feelings.
He told the Perry Park audience, "The media wrote that people booed. And you know what? I'm not going to lie, I'm not invincible. It hurt me a little bit, because I knew how much of a good time everyone had."
Rapper Pitbull performed for members of the U.S. military and their families to celebrate Independence Day (04Jul14) at the White House in Washington, D.C. The Timber hitmaker teamed up with the United Service Organizations (USO) to perform a special concert for troops on the South Lawn at the home of U.S. politics.
The rapper called the show the 'True American Dream' and expressed his appreciation to U.S. President Barack Obama for giving him the honour of performing when he is a Cuban American.
Following a series of snaps on Twitter.com, Pitbull wrote, "Performing at @WhiteHouse was a dream come true... thanks to the troops and the Obama family... Not bad for a 1st generation Cuban American so thanks to all."

Ariana Grande has pulled out of a planned performance at the annual Independence Day Philly Jam festival in Pennsylvania at the eleventh hour due to "unforeseen personal circumstances". The Problem hitmaker alerted concert officials to her issues on Friday (04Jul14), hours before she was due to hit the stage alongside performers like Nikki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Hudson and local heroes The Roots, who help organise the yearly free bash.
The Roots star Questlove alerted fans to her decision, tweeting, "Sending prayers & strength to @ArianaGrande's family. Due to unfortunate uncontrollable circumstances she has to cancel her #PhillyJam slot."
At press time it still wasn't clear why Grande had been forced to pull out of the show, but it appears it has nothing to do with her love life - on Thursday (03Jul14), the singer/actress confirmed comedian Jai Brooks is her "everything" after recently reconciling with her ex.
Brooks, 19, professed his love to the star on her 21st birthday last month (26Jun14), tweeting: “happy birthdays to the most beautiful girl in the world, you are 21!!! you’re my world I really love you. here’s to so many more memories!!”
Swedish dance star Avicii has called off an upcoming Independence Day (04Jul14) gig. The DJ was due to kick off America's Fourth of July (14) holiday weekend (04-06Jul14) by performing at the Governors Beach Club on Governor's Island in New York as part of a promotion with fashion brand Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren and department store Macy's.
Fans were offered free tickets when they spent $75 (£47) on Denim & Supply products at a Macy's store, but the gig has now been called off.
A statement posted on the clothing brand's website offers an apology to both the DJ and his fans.
It reads, "We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused our customers, Avicii, and Avicii's fans... Due to limited and restricted access on the Lower East Side of Manhattan on the evening of July 4th, the Avicii concert, scheduled to take place on Governor's Island, will be postponed to a new date. Please check back for details on a new show date and venue as we work to ensure a more enjoyable experience for all concert-goers."
Avicii hit headlines earlier this week (beg23Jun14) when dozens of concert-goers were hospitalised following his show in Boston, Massachusetts. Around 50 fans were treated by paramedics on site at the TD Garden venue, while another 36 were taken to nearby hospitals. Many of the cases were reportedly caused by dehydration, while a police spokesman suggested alcohol and drugs could have played a part.
