Embattled hip-hop mogul Damon Dash is preparing to call upon Kanye West and Mariah Carey as potential witnesses in his legal battle with director Lee Daniels. Jay Z's former Roc-A-Fella Records business partner is suing the filmmaker over allegations he reneged on the terms of an investment deal, which reportedly saw Dash pour $2 million (£1.25 million) into Kevin Bacon's 2004 drama The Woodsman.
Dash claims he was persuaded to re-invest the funds into a string of Daniels' other projects, including Oscar-winning 2009 release Precious, 2012 thriller The Paperboy and 2013's The Butler, in exchange for producing credits on the movies, but the acknowledgements never materialised.
On Monday (22Sep14), the plaintiff's lawyer, Natraj Bhushan, filed new papers in the case, detailing who Dash would call upon to back up his argument in a court of law.
The rap mogul listed West as one potential witness, after enlisting the Stronger rapper, who used to be signed to Roc-A-Fella Records, to help promote The Woodsman by staging performances at venues where advertisements for the movie would run.
Dash also alleges he was instrumental in convincing Carey to sign on for 2008's Tennessee, another project produced by Daniels, by vouching for the filmmaker's talents.
Carey later went on to land a role in Precious, which Daniels produced and directed.
Dash, who has struggled with money issues in recent years, is demanding unspecified damages from Daniels, who has yet to file a response to the suit.
Rapper, actor and TV personality Nick Cannon is taking on a new role as the manager for Wiz Khalifa's model wife Amber Rose. Mariah Carey's estranged husband will help to guide Rose's career through his N'Credible Entertainment company, which also counts hip-hop star Soulja Boy among its clients.
America's Got Talent host Nick Cannon wore a pair of diamond encrusted loafers worth $2 million (£1.3 million) for the show's finale on Wednesday (17Sept14).
The presenter showed off the $2 million (£1.3 million) footwear on in a picture posted on Women's Wear Daily's Instagram page ahead of the reality TV installment, writing, "A million each foot... Pow!" The shoes hold more than 14,000 full-cut diamonds set in white gold with a weight of 340 carats and were created by Jason Arashenen. The designer reveals Cannon approached him about the special project in 2013, saying, "Not very often do I get a request for the most expensive shoes in the world. When Nick approached me last year, he said he wanted to make history and be so over-the-top. He wanted to set a new standard in diamonds."
The pricey shoes are being considered by Guinness Book of World Records officials to be listed as the Most Valuable Pair of Shoes in the world. Cannon split from his superstar wife Mariah Carey last month (Sep14).
A series of Ariana Grande promotional activities in Australia have been scrapped because of a bad photo, according to reports from Down Under.
The Problem hitmaker stormed out of a photo session with mX photographer Chris Pavlich because she didn't like the shots he was taking, and when her aides and security staff attempted to persuade the snapper to delete the pictures he took, he refused, prompting Grande to cancel the rest of her photo shoot with a group of Australian photographers and interviews with the likes of the Sydney Daily Telegraph.
The newspaper's bosses have since published one of Pavlich's shots that Grande wasn't happy with and listed the questions they would have asked the pop star alongside the ones they were told they couldn't ask, including queries bout Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey and the singer's late grandfather, whose death forced her to cancel plans to perform at The Roots' U.S. Independence Day festival in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 4 July (14).
Actor/rapper Nick Cannon has served up what he promises will be his last thoughts on his separation from estranged wife Mariah Carey, insisting he won't be making any statements regarding the couple's break-up. The rapper and TV presenter confirmed reports suggesting the couple had split last month (Aug14), confessing he and Carey had been living apart for months.
Since then, speculation has surfaced about the break-up with some media outlets suggesting Cannon's alleged infidelity with a younger model led to the split, while others have attacked Carey.
In a lengthy Twitter.com post on Wednesday (03Sep14), cannon set out to clear up the rumours, writing, "I have personally been absent from social media for the past few months for obvious reasons but I feel the need to finally speak up... During this challenging time for me and my family it saddens me that the media can be such evil bottom feeders...
"Because my family & I haven't been forthcoming with personal information, people are quick to paint negative pictures and spread rumours.
"For the record I NEVER have, nor will I make a statement regarding my marriage. So whatever your favorite gossip outlet is reporting has been created within their own imagination... At this difficult time I would ask all civilized people to please respect my family and this process."
But then he went on to vent his frustration over the media attacks on Carey, and defended her, adding, "What infuriates me most is to hear people slander @MariahCarey. I will forever be indebted to her for blessing me with our children... I will always love her unconditionally for this and so much more.
"@MariahCarey is an amazing Mother and I trust her wholeheartedly... So to see false reports in the media stating otherwise is absurd! While I would like to remain silent I can no longer allow this to happen. I love @MariahCarey and that will never change!!!"
He continued, "If the media wants to portray me as the Bad guy that's fine... But it is unfair to drag innocent people into the equation... Others have lives, families, and careers and for the media to slander them is down right evil and illegal... I apologize to anyone who's gotten caught up in this unwarranted drama.
"Don't worry about my life, worry about why you're worried about my life!"
Carey has refused to comment on the split and the only word from her camp came from a publicist's statement, which read: "Mariah is focusing on her children and her upcoming tour."
Carey and Cannon wed in 2008 after a whirlwind courtship. They are parents to three-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe.
Nick Cannon is set to release an illustrated children's poetry book next year (15). Neon Aliens Ate My Homework and Other Poems will hit store shelves in March, 2015 and will feature a range of funny, heartwarming and serious poems written by the America's Got Talent host, who recently split from his wife Mariah Carey.
The book will also include illustrations from Cannon and street artists and will combine his love of hip-hop music and poetry.
He says, "Writing is at the centre of everything I do as an artist. Doing creative writing - especially writing poetry - is when I felt the calmest and freest. As a kid, it was my escape from the inner-city pitfalls.
"The first important writer in my life was (poet) Shel Silverstein - he made me fall in love with writing and seeing his whimsical sketches got me interested in art. When I was eight years old, I got a spiral notebook and wrote my first poem/rap.
"I filled that notebook with poems, rhymes, jokes, and witty stories. I still keep one to this day. I hope that poems in Neon Aliens will help inspire kids to want to get out a pen and paper to write or draw their own thoughts, rhymes, and stories."
In addition to the poetry book, Cannon will also release a holiday children's book, titled Roc and Roe's Twelve Days of Christmas, which was co-written by his estranged wife Mariah Carey, in November (14).

Last week (ends22Aug14), Cannon confirmed reports suggesting the couple had split, revealing he and Carey had been living apart for months. But no one knew and even family members had no idea there was "trouble in paradise", as the comedian had put it.
The couple reunited to visit Cannon's grandfather, James Cannon, in Temecula, California, when they heard he had to go into hospital.
James tells Life & Style magazine, "Mariah, Nick and the twins (Moroccan and Monroe) were by here before I went into the hospital for three weeks. "They were doing all right - there was no break-up then."

The track is expected to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 countdown on Wednesday (27Aug14) but it has started off high on other charts. It debuts at number nine on the Adult Pop Songs radio airplay chart, becoming the first single to bow in the top 10. Mariah Carey's husband Nick Cannon has confirmed reports suggesting the couple has separated, revealing they have been living apart for months. Sources told People.com that TV presenter Cannon has been "staying in hotels" ever since the couple started experiencing a rough patch in its six-year marriage, but spending special family days together for the sake of twins Moroccan and Monroe.
The source adds that things "have been bad for a while", and now Cannon has told U.S. show The Insider, "There is trouble in paradise", adding, "We have been living in separate houses for a few months."
He refused to go into specifics but dismissed rumours that infidelity was to blame for the marriage breakdown.
He adds, "My main focus is my kids."
