A celebration of the 40-year history of "ABC's Wide World of Sports." Jim McKay, who was the host for the first show on April 29, 1961, hosts the special. The special looks back on the many athletes, personalities and events that have been chronicled during the series' 40 years, from the legendary Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Nadia Comaneci and Evel Knievel, to present-day legends Tiger Woods, Michelle Kwan and Lance Arnstrong. The program also chronicles the "constant variety of sport," which includes unusual and unique events that appeared on the series, such as barrel jumping, cliff diving, demolition derby, wrist wrestling and lumberjack competitions. Segments include: "Athletic Achievement," "Spanning the Globe," "Figure Skating," "Daredevils," "Motorsports," "Women in Sports," "Boxing," "Horse Racing" and "Endurance."
