Pop star Cyndi Lauper has recruited rapper 50 Cent to perform at her annual charity concert which supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) homeless youth. The In Da Club hitmaker has come under fire a number of times for making anti-gay comments, including a bust-up with celebrity blogger Perez Hilton in 2010, when he tweeted, "Perez Hilton called me d**che bag so I had my homie shoot up a gay wedding. Wasn't his but still made me feel better."
Now he is hoping to make amends by joining the singer's fourth annual Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home For The Holidays charity show, an event which supports her True Colors Fund that works to address the problem of LGBT youth homelessness.
Also taking to the stage are Dixie Chicks star Natalie Maines, Patty Griffin, Salt-N-Pepa, and Sufjan Stevens among others.
The star-studded concert will be held on 6 December (14) at New York City's Beacon Theatre and co-hosted by Lauper and Rosie O'Donnell.
U.S. reality TV star Teresa Giudice is following her husband Joe to jail after a judge sentenced her to 15 months behind bars on fraud charges on Thursday (02Oct14).
Just hours after sentencing her husband to 41 months in prison, Judge Esther Salas ruled the Real Housewives of New Jersey star should serve over a year behind bars for her part in a bank and mail fraud scandal that hit the headlines last summer (13). Judge Salas listened as an emotional Teresa read out a statement prior to sentencing, but still refused her attorney's request to allow "probation and home confinement".
The judge told the reality TV star, "For a moment I thought about probation… but I think a period of confinement is absolutely necessary in this case. I don't honestly believe that you understand or respect the law. I need to send a message. In the eyes of the law, it doesn't matter who you are. There are consequences to pay." However, she shaved off six months from prosecutors' demands that she should serve 21 months behind bars.
Teresa, who also received two years probation, will surrender for her sentence on 5 January (15) so she can spend the holidays with her husband and four daughters, aged from four to 13. Joe Giudice's stint behind bars will follow his wife's. He also faces "imminent deportation" following his sentence.
Hollywood actor Robert Downey, Jr. is in mourning following the death of his mother. The Iron Man star's actress mum Elsie passed away on Monday (22Sep14) at the age of 80, and the Oscar nominee shared the sad news in a post on his Facebook.com page on Friday (26Sep14).
Downey, Jr. posted a detailed letter about her life, revealing she battled alcoholism in the 1970s but eventually got sober and later inspired her son to kick his own addictions. She also suffered from heart disease and endured a number of health problems this year (14).
He writes, "My mom passed away early this week... I wanna say something about her life, and a generic 'obit' won't suffice... While I strived to have the kind of success that eluded her, my own addiction repeatedly forbade it. In the summer of 2004, I was in bad shape. She called me out of the blue, and I admitted everything. I don't remember what she said, but I haven't drank or used (drugs) since...
"Many fond memories of her in the last few years...holidays, kid-stuff, her strutting around with a walking stick. I knew it was difficult, and understood as the visits got shorter. In March, she suffered another cardiac arrest and was put on life support. Her wishes were to be left to die if there wasn't a reasonable chance of recovery, which for some time there was. I returned from filming the Avengers sequel in June, went straight to see her. To my amazement, she was completely lucid, interactive, mugging + pulling faces. We couldn't speak 'cause she had a tracheal tube.
"I wondered if she might just beat the odds once more. Another set of seizures answered that, and we brought her home for hospice. She died @ 11 p.m., September 22nd, survived by her extremely loving and tolerant partner of 37 years, Jonas Kerr. She was my role model as an actor, and as a woman who got sober and stayed that way. She was also reclusive, self-deprecating, a stoic Scotch-German rural Pennsylvanian, a ball buster, stubborn, and happy to hold a grudge... That's all her...and I wouldn't have it any other way. If anyone out there has a mother, and she's not perfect, please call her and say you love her anyway..."
Elsie starred in many of her husband Robert Downey, Sr.'s movies before retiring from acting. The couple divorced in 1975.
Hootie & The Blowfish frontman-turned-country star Darius Rucker. Sheryl Crow let the news of the seasonal treat for fans out of the gift bag last week (ends12Sep14) by posting a photo of herself with Rucker online and captioning it "Merry Christmas Baby! (I sang on his upcoming Christmas record)", and now the Wagon Wheel singer has confirmed the news.
Home for the Holidays, which will be released in October (14), will feature classics such as Baby It's Cold Outside, which he has recorded with Crow, Winter Wonderland and O Come All Ye Faithful as well as original tunes Candy Cane Christmas and What God Wants For Christmas.
He says, "I am so excited to finally make a Christmas album. This has been a lifelong dream, and I hope my fans enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making it."
Rucker will join the likes of Leann Rimes and Idina Menzel among those releasing holiday albums this year (14).
Sir Paul McCartney made the best of his recent ill health as the break from work allowed him to spend more time with his wife and take his first proper vacation in years. The Beatles legend was hospitalised in Japan in May (14) after he fell sick with a virus, prompting him to cancel the rest of his Asian tour and push back his planned dates in the U.S.
McCartney returned to his native U.K. to recover, and was later pictured bouncing back to health on a sun-soaked vacation with his wife Nancy Shevell in Ibiza, Spain before restarting his American tour on 5 July (14).
The 72-year-old musician has now revealed he actually enjoyed his sick leave as he relished the chance to rest and recuperate.
He tells Rolling Stone, "People say to me, 'Aw, that must have been terrible for you.' Well, no, actually. No one ever tells me to rest! It was like summer holidays in school or something. I thought, 'Yeah, I can get into that'. I just took it really easy at home in England..."
McCartney reveals he had time to read a film script written by his son, experiment with some new music, and take up jogging before heading off on a vacation.
He adds, "My son-in-law had a film script - plenty of time to read that. I started jogging a bit. The weather was great, so that was cool. And then I went into my recording studio and did some music that I didn't have to do, some experimental stuff. That was a really nice musical awakening, and it made me feel better... One part of this rest program was, I said to Nancy, 'Hey, we can take a holiday! A real holiday, where we go away.' So we went away to Ibiza."
Ever since she used the term "conscious uncoupling," Gwyneth Paltrow has had her personal life under a microscope. But Paltrow is no stranger to oversharing, bringing the details of her lavish lifestyle to her weekly GOOP newsletter (much to the ire of working moms everywhere). Thankfully for celebrities like Paltrow, there is more than one bright side to splitting up.
That's why even in the midst of a very public divorce, GP is still sitting pretty -- compared to the rest of us, at least. Here's why your day-to-day just doesn't measure up:
You have to work all year round. Paltrow has said she only makes one movie a year, for which she cuts a multi-million dollar paycheck. How many vacation days have you saved up so far?
You don't have time to know what "macrobiotic" means.Following Paltrow's customized diet would drain both your bank account and your sanity.
You wear "real" clothes.Your monthly clothing budget looks more like your water bill than your mortgage. Paltrow is BFFs with A-list designers like Stella McCartney.
Your gifts suck. When the holidays roll around, you and your girlfriends play white elephant with a budget in the double digits. In her 2013 GOOP gift guide, Paltrow recommended a set of PJs for your BF that would set you back almost $450 -- before the custom monogram.
Your personal trainer is your DVD player. And by making house calls to check your form, you mean your toddler climbing on your back during plank. Paltrow is a Tracy Anderson protege and her business partner.
Your self renewal process is (fingers crossed) a morning shower.Paltrow famously endures multiple detoxes each year to heal and cleanse -- every day is a detox for you because you don't have time to eat until dinner.
You're still trying to get a reservation at Babbo. When Paltrow wanted to learn the finer nuances of Italian cooking, she went on a road trip with chef and owner Mario Batali.GIPHY
You and your girlfriends enjoy a cocktail or two.Paltrow told the The Guardian in 2006 she didn't "like" drunk women and had no "drunk friends." Guess you'll be stuck hanging out at those lame places for drunk people: bars, clubs, concerts, events, etc. (Okay, maybe this is a reason your life is better.)
You only have one closet. For someone like Paltrow, who is constantly acquiring new pieces for her wardrobe, space is at a premium. So she calls in the experts at Vault Couture to catalogue and store her garments off-site. By browsing her online "vault" she can select items for rapid global delivery whenever she wants. Yes, she basically has the Clueless closet.
Your vacations are anything but transformative.Even though she described the accommodations at Mii amo Spa in Sedona, Arizona as "nothing to write home about" in the December 11, 2013 issue of GOOP, she still suggests shelling out between $2,265 and $2,500 for a three-day therapeutic journey in a double-occupancy room. Per person.
You're stuck living within your means.Perhaps justifying her anything-but-normal life, Paltrow told Elle UK in 2009 "I am who I am. I can't pretend to be somebody who makes $25,000 a year." We could give her some tips.
You've consumed your share of subpar dairy. At the iTunes Festival in 2011, Paltrow declared, "I'd rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a tin." Who knew Cheese Whiz was a gateway drug?
If this sounds like you, don't fret. At least no one has to know.
Bob Hoskins' daughter marked Father's Day on Sunday (15Jun14) by writing an emotional tribute to her late father. The Who Framed Roger Rabbit actor passed away in April (14) at the age of 71, prompting an outpouring of grief among his fans and fellow stars.
Hoskins' actress daughter Rosa has now shared her sadness in the aftermath of her dad's death by writing a moving tribute to the veteran star in honour of Father's Day.
In an article for Britain's Style magazine, she writes, "Father's Day was never particularly special in the Hoskins household. Dad didn't believe in token Hallmark (card company) holidays... In fact, he had no interest in celebrating himself or his achievements...
"Dad was never... dazzled by fame or superficial glamour - to use his words, 'It's all cobblers!' Despite his success, what he cherished most was spending time with us at home. Make no mistake, he loved his job and relished every role... He loved his job, but he loved us more."
Rosa goes on to explain how Hoskins' family gathered around him in the final few weeks before his death from pneumonia.
She adds, "During his final months, I was with him every day. I sat next to him and put my hand in his... Although our long goodbye was pain like I've never known, we had the opportunity to express pure love. His last words to me were, 'You are the most beautiful girl in the world, I love you so much.'"
Hoskins was also father to another daughter, Sarah, and two sons, Alex and Jack.
Actress and playwright Amanda Peet is adding children's author to her resume after signing a deal to release her first kids' book. Picture book Dear Santa, Love Rachel Rosenstein, co-created by her friend Andrea Troyer, centres on a young Jewish girl who questions why Father Christmas never visits her home over the winter holidays. The story, which will be published by Random House next year (15), was inspired by Peet's own two kids, who wondered why they didn't have a Christmas tree.
Jennifer Lawrence and her boyfriend Nicholas Hoult are preparing to move in together after making an offer on an English country house, according to a U.K. report. The Oscar-winning actress has been dating her X-Men: First Class co-star on and off since 2011, and she is now reportedly stepping up the relationship by moving from her native America to set up home with the Brit.
The couple has reportedly made an offer on a seven-bedroom barn conversion near Hook in Hampshire, England, according to Britain's The Sun.
They reportedly decided to buy the property after viewing it together over the Christmas holidays (13), but it is not known if their offer on the $2.1 million (£1.3 million) home has been accepted.
The house is close to Hoult's parents, who live just a few miles away.
"We moved into Gwen Stefani's old house... Over the holidays we were collecting holiday cards meant for her. So I have some of her mail, I was wondering if you could pass this on to her. I really wanted to open it but I hear it's against the law." Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson asks U.S. talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to pass on mail he's accumulated over the past few months belonging to her friend, Gwen Stefani. The singer and her husband Gavin Rossdale moved out of the Los Angeles mansion in 2007, and Ferguson and his new husband Justin Mikita purchased the home last November (13).
