Retired catwalk queen Tyra Banks is championing a young model with skin disease vitiligo. The stunner encouraged Chantelle Brown-Young to sign up for her America's Next Top Model TV show and now she's promoting the upcoming season with the African-American beauty, who is suffering from the skin pigment condition.
Banks explains, "I'm obsessed with my social media... and I just kept seeing these beautiful pictures of this girl... and I reached out to my Top Model team and I said, 'Find her and put her in front in me in the next couple of weeks'.
The Canadian model admits she posted all her work online in the hope that someone like Banks would spot it and give her a career boost.
The former Victoria's Secret stunner adds, "I get bored with cookie cutter beauty and I think in my career I have to thank people in Paris and Italy for looking a girl that had a big forehead and big eyes and a pointy chin... When I was young I was kind of alien-esque and for them to accept me and to put me on covers for the first time, as a black girl, it made me appreciate things that are out of the box.
"When I see somebody like Chantelle I'm like, 'This is beautiful, this is unique, the world needs to see that'."
Brown-Young was four when she was first diagnosed with vitiligo; she had to leave high school because she couldn't handle the bullying surrounding her look.
Matthew Mcconaughey has signed up to front TV commercials for the Lincoln car company. The actor, who was driven around in one of the company's town cars in his film The Lincoln Lawyer, will be directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, who helmed Ryan Gosling's thriller Drive.
Veteran rockers Motley Crue were soaked on stage as they took part in the charity ice bucket challenge during a show in Virginia on Wednesday night (20Aug14). The Girls, Girls, Girls hitmakers were nominated for the stunt by fellow rocker Alice Cooper and they took up the challenge in front of thousands of fans at a concert in Virginia Beach.
Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Vince Neil and Mick Mars were drenched in ice water by members of their production crew to help raise funds for the ALS Association to help sufferers of Lou Gehrig's disease, also known as ALS and motor neurone disease.
Sixx posted a picture of the soaking online and revealed they had donated $10,000 (£5,882) to the charity and nominated fellow rock bands KISS, Aerosmith and Def Leppard to follow suit and complete the challenge onstage.
He writes in a series of posts on Twitter.com, "@MotleyCrue just called @KISSOnline @Aerosmith and @def_leppard to the ice bucket challenge. You have to (do) it onstage and match our 10k #ALS (sic)... Ps we each excepted many friends challenge including @RealAliceCooper tonight. Do it to raise awareness and money for research for #ALS."
KISS frontman Paul Stanley accepted the nomination and agreed to get soaked during the band's show with Def Leppard in Noblesville, Indiana on Friday (22Aug14). In a post on Twitter.com, he writes, "We accept Motley Crue's ALS Ice Bucket Challenge! Friday Night in Indy. $10,000 and a whole lotta ice water! (sic)."
Jessica Alba has packed her daughter off to summer etiquette camp in the hope she'll pick up some good manners. The Sin City star admits six-year-old Honor is a savage at the table and she and husband Cash Warren are tired of telling her to behave better.
She explains, "She doesn't have the best manners and she eats like an animal. It's embarrassing. She gets close to the plate and she just shoves (shovels it in).
"I tried to tell her certain table manners (but) she doesn't listen to me, so I'm like, 'Maybe if someone else told her this, it would sink in'. It doesn't... She's great at etiquette camp, in front of the teacher, but at home she's like, mouth full, pinching her sister, stealing food and then, like, giving the dogs the rest."
Gwar fans paid their respects to late frontman Dave Brockie at the group's annual Gwar-B-Q in Richmond, Virginia on Friday (15Aug14) by setting fire to his stage costume in a Viking-esque funeral. The rocker, aka Oderus Urungus, died of an accidental heroin overdose in March (14), and pal and Lamb of God star Randy Blythe led Friday's send-off with a eulogy as the festival began.
Brockie's costume was laid out on a boat, which was launched into a lake and set on fire with a flaming arrow.
Blythe told the gathered fans, friends and family members, "Dave is the only motherf**ker I know who has to get put away twice. He’s too big for one f**king funeral."
The Lamb of God star also posted a photo of the flaming pyre to Instagram.com, writing, "Tonight we sent Oderus home in a fitting manner at the public memorial for Dave Brockie... Watching my friend Dave's costume go up in flames in front of a thousand fans was so much more intense for me than the private memorial for friends & family we had April Fool's Day. I spoke at both of them, as GWAR asked me to, & both times as I spoke I was sad.
"But watching his alter-ego burn tore me up way more than the first memorial, maybe because there was Dave, the human who was my friend who just 'left us' - I never saw his body - & then there was Oderus, who was something entirely else. To watch his stage gear burn was like watching part of my life literally go up in flames. I was sobbing my eyes out as I took this photo. It was just a super-intense moment. Very beautiful, but overwhelming. Fly free, Oderus - you are missed."
Sylvester Stallone torpedoed his chances of playing Han Solo in the first Star Wars films by confirming George Lucas' fears he would be awful as the space bounty hunter at his audition. The action man has revealed he was up for Harrison Ford's iconic role and reluctantly turned up to audition for the part following the release of his breakout movie Rocky.
He took one look at Lucas and his sidekick upon entering the room and knew immediately he wasn't going to get the part.
Stallone recalls, "After you've seen 100 people, you get tired, so you just hope the guy in front of you disappears... I got nowhere.
"I said, 'Let me just make it easy for you; I would look like crap in Spandex, leotards and a ray gun. Guys from outer space don't have this kind of face'."
Lily Allen will close out her comeback year by ringing in 2015 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Smile singer has announced she'll be headlining the city's annual Hogmanay celebrations on 31 December (14).
She'll perform in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle during the Concert In The Gardens, as part of a nine-date U.K. tour.
Allen says, "I've always wanted to spend Hogmanay in Scotland so the fact that I get to do it this year, but performing on stage in front of a whole load of people up for the best time, makes it extra special."
Allen has just completed a run of U.S. shows as support to Miley Cyrus. Her U.K. tour will begin in November (14).
Rapper J.cole has paid tribute to a black teenager killed by a police officer in Missouri by releasing a new song dedicated to him. Darren Wilson shot unarmed Michael Brown, who was suspected of stealing a box of cigars from a suburban St. Louis store, on 9 August (14), and the incident has sparked a series of tense protests between African-Americans and civil rights leaders and officials in the state.
As Governor Jay Nixon, President Barack Obama and Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson join forces in a bid to end days of violence, hip-hop star Cole has released Be Free to voice his frustrations with the deaths of African-American men in the U.S.
In a post on his website, Dreamvillain.com, he writes, "That coulda (sic) been me, easily. It could have been my best friend. I'm tired of being desensitized to the murder of black men. I don't give a f**k if it's by police or peers. This s**t is not normal. I made a song. This is how we feel."
Cole is not the only celebrity to speak out about the incident in Missouri - John Legend, Kerry Washington and Mark Ruffalo have voiced concerns over the treatment of protesters by police following the shooting.
Legend took to Twitter.com to voice his opinion, writing, "I believe these cops are intentionally trying to inflame the situation. They want an excuse. Recall the local cop telling those 'animals' to 'bring it' on (news channel) CNN... He wants a fight.
"Calling us 'animals' has been the language to justify slavery... Dehumanization and racism go together."
Meanwhile, R&B star Frank Ocean took to Tumblr.com to comment on an image of Governor Nixon standing in front of a black woman as he addressed the slaying of Brown and wrote, "You see that black woman standing up there? I wonder if she was called to stand behind the governor because she’s black. I wonder if i’m supposed to think Missouri’s gov’t is pro-black because of her being stood up there with those other black men being all black and everything. I wonder if she was off the clock while she stood up there... then i wonder if she was getting paid for her time off like the guy who shot Michael 8 times."
One of the rare gems we've seen hit the single-digit channels since the turn of the millennium, The Office, actually sported a ton of directors you've more than likely heard of. Some of them were already famous upon helming an episode or two of the NBC mockumentary, others were pinned at the starting line of what has proved to be a rocket-fueled race to stardom. Here are a few great film directors who, as you may or may not know, worked on The Office from time to time:
Columbia Pictures via Everett Collection
Episodes Directed: "Hot Girl."But You Know Her for: The generation-defining Jane Austen adaptation Clueless, plus the Look Who's Talking movies and European Vacation.
Columbia Pictures via Everett Collection
Episodes Directed: "A Benihana Christmas," "Safety Training," "Beach Games," and "The Delivery - Part 2."But You Know Him for: Some of the most iconic comedies from the past 35 years — Caddyshack, National Lampoon's Vacation, and Groundhog Day among them. And as far as acting goes, we'll remember him always as Egon Spengler.
Episodes Directed: "Business School" and "Beach Wars."But You Know Him for: It's true that offbeat television work like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly is what got Whedon on the map, but he is now one of the most prominent voices in blockbuster cinema thanks to, if nothing else, The Avengers and the upcoming The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Episodes Directed: "Moving On."But You Know Him for: Another member of the Marvel family, Favreau's biggest films are certainly Iron Man and Iron Man 2, though we celebrate his smaller fare: Made, Elf, and 2014's delightful Chef.
Fox Searchlight Pictures via Everett Collection
Episodes Directed: "Manager and Salesman."But You Know Him for: Jumping over to the other side of the comic book game, we find Webb's Amazing Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man 2. But before partnering up with Peter Parker (or even joining forces with Michael Scott), Webb helmed the neo-rom com (500) Days of Summer.
Paramount Pictures via Everett Collection
Episodes Directed: "Cocktails."But You Know Him for: Whedon's only rival on this list in terms of blockbuster influence, Abrams is of course the man behind Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, as well as the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII.
Paramount Pictures via Everett Collection
Episodes Directed: "Koi Pond."But You Know Him for: Though Hudlin has spent most of his time directing television in recent years, the dawn of his career gave us two early '90s cult favorites: the Kid 'n Play comedy House Party and Eddie Murphy's Boomerang.
Paramount Pictures via Everett Collection
Episodes Directed: "Local Ad" and "Frame Toby."But You Know Him for: That irreverent fast-paced serio-comedic style we saw in Thank You for Smoking, Juno, Up in the Air, and (the best of the lot) Young Adult. He also did Labor Day, but we don't have to talk about that one.
Episodes Directed: "Work Bus."But You Know Him for: Not directing, but acting. Cranston became a household name thanks to his starring role as Walter White on the unforgettable Breaking Bad.
20th Century Fox Film via Everett Collection
Episodes Directed: And we have a winner! Feig directed 14 episodes of The Office, including "Office Olympics," "Halloween," "Performance Review," "E-Mail Surveillance," "Survivor Man," "Dinner Party," "Goodbye, Toby," "Weight Loss," "The Surplus," "Moroccan Christmas," "New Boss," "Dream Team," "Niagara," "Goodbye, Michael."But You Know Him for: Bridesmaids, of course, plus The Heat... and the legion of exciting projects he has in the works, like a spy comedy, a gay rom com, and (potentially) an all-female Ghostbusters III. And although we're focusing on movie credits here, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention his greatest contribution to pop culture of all: Freaks and Geeks.

Last night, One Direction's front man, Harry Styles, got engaged! Well, sort of.
The band performed the first of two shows at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field on their Where We Are tour. Towards the end of their concert, Styles paused between songs to ask the crowd if there was really a girl there in a wedding dress.
To rewind a little bit, yesterday Priya went to a One Direction concert. In a wedding dress.
