Moviemaker Robert Rodriguez is going back to his roots to offer budding directors the chance to make their dream film on a budget. The Sin City mastermind became an overnight sensation when his low-budget 1992 film El Mariachi became a cult hit, and now he's keen to give wannabe filmmakers an opportunity to follow in his footsteps.
Rodriguez is working on a reality show for his new El Rey TV network, which will give visionaries the chance to make a film for just $7,000 (GBP4,400).
He tells the Los Angeles Times, "I want to do a show called "The Mariachi Project" where I give $7,000 to a filmmaker to go make a feature. We'll show it on the network, give it some critiquing. At the end of the season the winner, chosen by the audience, will get to remake the film with a bigger budget, a real crew and bigger actors."
Rodriguez insists the concept will be easy for savvy filmmakers - because he could make El Mariachi for $700 (GBP435) today.
He adds, "The biggest expense was the film stock and now everybody shoots digitally. The film camera I had was so noisy, I had to record the sound separately. It sounded like all my money running away."
Model Suki Waterhouse is following in the footsteps of her boyfriend Bradley Cooper by carving out an acting career. The Brit has filmed a role in Look, Rosie - the adaptation of Cecelia Ahern's book Where Rainbows End - and she is keen to become Hollywood's next Angelina Jolie.
She tells Look magazine, "I just finished a romantic comedy a couple of months ago called Love, Rosie, filmed in Ireland. It's my first proper feature film and it made me decide I want to do more, so we'll see ... Maybe (I'd play) a Bond girl, or anything like that. Or Angelina Jolie's Girl, Interrupted kind of thing. I'd like to play a bad-a** girl.
"I think with modelling and acting these days, the lines are blurred. Everyone can do all sorts of things, so why do just one?"

"MAC has a very clear aesthetic that has always felt fashion forward to me. So I was really excited to work with them on these products, which I use pretty much every day and night."

Bugg is a devoted supported of another British side Notts County, and he has urged club executives to let him follow in Tomlinson's footsteps by hiring him for the team.
Speaking to Ian Wright on the Absolute Radio Rock 'N' Roll Football show, Bugg says, "I think they (Notts County) should just bang me in the team. I'm a striker. They've got now't (nothing) to lose have they? They're bottom of (the) league at the moment and it might boost morale - that's what I'd be doing. My grandad supported County and County are the oldest professional team."

The actress daughter of tragic conservationist Steve Irwin is facing a backlash after partnering with controversial theme park SeaWorld for a new campaign. Following the 2013 release of documentary Blackfish, a film which exposed the bleak conditions faced by killer whales in captivity, a storm of negative publicity, boycotts and protests have been staged against SeaWorld bosses.
Despite the negative publicity, the 15 year old announced on Thursday (06Mar14) that she will front a new promotional drive geared towards children for the theme park.
She said, "I'm so excited to be carrying on in Dad's footsteps and making sure that everything he worked so hard for continues for the generations to come.
"That's why I'm thrilled to be empowering kids. I'm thrilled to be partnered up with SeaWorld. Thrilled to be part of this new project Generation Nature and just encouraging kids to change the world."
The venture has attracted the ire of animals rights campaigners, including bosses at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
A statement from a PETA representative reads: "The Irwin family has been exploiting animals for years, so it comes as no surprise that Bindi has agreed to become SeaWorld’s latest shill.
"But plastering her face on SeaWorld’s website won’t cover up the fact that orcas, dolphins, and other animals are suffering in SeaWorld's tiny tanks after being ripped from their families. What millions have realised - through PETA's massive campaign and the hit documentary Blackfish - is that SeaWorld is no place for anyone who truly cares about animals."
