Reese Witherspoon and Renee Zellwegger added star power to The Walk to Defeat ALS in Los Angeles on Sunday (19Oct14) to support Hollywood publicist Nanci Ryder, who was recently diagnosed with the disease. The actresses participated in the charity event to raise money for the ALS Association, an organisation dedicated to finding a treatment and cure for the progressive neuro-degenerative disease.
Witherspoon and Zellwegger, who are both long time clients and friends of Ryder, participated in the two-mile trek in downtown Los Angeles to show their support for their pal, and even wore shirts with "Team Nanci" printed on them.
The Walk the Line star shared a photo of herself with Ryder on Instagram following the walk, along with a caption which read: "This morning, I participated in The Walk To Defeat #ALS, with my good friend Nanci, who was diagnosed with ALS in August. I love this lady so much; she's a symbol of incredible strength, grace, and beauty as she fights ALS.
"Thanks to everyone who participated in #icebucketchallenge and supported the fight against this disease! (P.S. Remember it doesn't end when all the ice buckets are put down. It's not too late to donate! And let's keep reminding ourselves to do good, dream big, and make change!! Agree?!)
The Ice Bucket Challenge became a phenomenon in America over the summer (14) as celebrities and dignitaries around the world tipped freezing water over their heads to raise awareness about ALS.
Ryder, who is also a breast cancer survivor, told E! News she greatly appreciated the outpouring of support from her colleagues and friends, saying, "I'm overwhelmed. I feel so loved. I think we tend not to appreciate that, but now I really do."
Also on hand to support the charity were celebrities including Emmy Rossum, Katharine McPhee, Rosanna Arquette, Rose McGowan and Mae Whitman.
Actress Meagan Good has been left "shocked and saddened" by news nude photos of her have leaked online.
The Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues actress is among the celebrities who woke up on Sunday (21Sep14) and discovered naked pictures had been posted on the Internet in the most recent wave of the ongoing hacking scandal. Good has taken to Instagram.com to vent her feelings, blasting the web bosses who are reposting the images that first appeared on 4chan.com.
She wrote, "I'm definitely in shock (and) saddened for everyone who is experiencing this. At the end of the day, we all know these pictures were for my husband." She added, "Oh, yeah - and for everyone who's reposting the leaked nudes? You should be ashamed of yourself." Good is not the only actress to respond to the latest leaks - her Think Like A Man Too co-star Gabrielle Union has reportedly contacted the FBI about the issue.
Good and newlyweds Union and Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Vanessa Hudgens and pregnant Hayden Panettiere are among the celebrities featured in the latest shots posted on the Internet on Sunday. Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Kelly Brook and Kaley Cuoco Sweeting were among the first wave of stars, whose intimate snaps were stolen from cloud storage devices.
Actress Cate Blanchett has pulled out of a pair of Thursday morning (06Feb14) U.S. TV appearances because she's too upset about the death of her friend Philip Seymour Hoffman. The Australian star was booked to appear on Good Morning America and Live! With Kelly and Michael to promote her new movie The Monuments Men, but she has opted not to be a guest.
Her representative confirms the interviews were cancelled to "allow Cate the time and privacy to grieve for the loss of her friend Philip Seymour Hoffman."
She became close friends with the tragic Capote star after working with him on 1999 film The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Blanchett, who also refused to chat to the media at Tuesday's (04Feb14) Monuments Men premiere in New York, was spotted visiting Hoffman's longtime partner Mimi O'Donnell and their three kids on Monday (03Feb14).
The actor passed away from a suspected heroin overdose on Sunday (02Feb13).
Philip Seymour Hoffman's Almost Famous co-star Patrick Fugit has added his tribute to the tragic actor in a heartfelt essay published by the New York Post. A day after the 2000 film's director Cameron Crowe offered up his respects in the form of a touching post on his blog, Fugit, who played young music journalist William Miller in the movie, revealed working with the acting great was an "intimidating" experience.
He recalls, "Philip was very forward with me, in a school-of-hard-knocks way. It was almost like when you go on a hike with your dad, and your dad just hikes the mountain and expects you to keep up. That's the way Philip did the scenes. It was like he was saying, 'All right, kid, you're here, you're playing the lead in Cameron's movie'. There was a certain weight that came with him. There was sort of a darkness. That's part of what made his acting so compelling and complete."
Fugit reveals even the flu couldn't stop Hoffman from giving his all: "I remember watching him in the scene in which Lester is doing the Iggy Pop dance. I was watching Philip work, and it occurred to me: This was the sort of caliber of acting that I was going to need to do from that point forward. There was something about watching Philip that opened my eyes to the potential for creating."
Another Hoffman co-star who was paying his respects on Tuesday (04Feb14) was The Talented Mr. Ripley's Matt Damon.
Speaking on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America, he said, "He's one of the best actors to ever live, without a doubt... And he was an even better person, he was a beautiful, beautiful person. It's horrible, just horrible."
Hoffman died of a suspected drug overdose at his home in New York on Sunday (02Feb14).
U.S. TV host Robin Roberts has publicly acknowledged her longtime girlfriend in a heartfelt online message thanking her for helping during her health struggles over the past year (13). In 2012, the 51 year old was diagnosed with a rare blood and bone marrow disease, and subsequently underwent a bone marrow transplant before returning to her post at U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America in February (13).
Roberts took to Facebook.com on Sunday (29Dec13) to share her gratitude for her family and friends - including girlfriend Amber Laign - who helped her through a troublesome year.
She wrote, "I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together... I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold.
"Reading this comforts me and I hope the same for you: 'If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present.' At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude."
An executive from the ABC network, home to Good Morning America, has praised Roberts for her decision to 'come out', telling TVGuide.com, "We love Robin and Amber, who we adore and have all known for a long time. We were touched by her Facebook message today and so thankful for the loving support she has in her life."
Roberts, who also overcame breast cancer in 2007, has been involved with Laign for 10 years after meeting through mutual friends, according to People magazine.
Miley Cyrus might have the best of both worlds but that certainly does not include a role on Broadway — and we have the leaked audio to prove it.
On Sunday, a leaked version of the singer covering "On My Own" from Les Misérables was released to our ears' dismay. Because the clip's origins are unclear, we aren't totally positive that these pipes are the real Smiley Miley's... but it definitely sounds like her! And it also sounds like she has quite a bit of work to do before she lands a gig on the Great White Way.
Whether the 20-year-old singer of "We Can't Stop" is actually on her own remains to be unclear. Following reports that she had split from fiancé Liam Hemsworth, Cyrus was spotted in Alberta, Canada, visiting the Australian actor while he films his latest project Cut Bank. When the artist formerly known as Hannah Montana was questioned about her relationship status with the hunky star of The Hunger Games on Good Morning America, she simply stated, "I'm wearing a ring, so... "
Listen to Cyrus' leaked cover above (at your own risk) and then compare it to what the song should actually sound like.

Longrunning U.S. soap The Bold And The Beautiful, comedienne Ellen Degeneres and movie mogul George Lucas were among the big winners at the 2013 Daytime Emmy Awards on Sunday (16Jun13), each taking home top honours. The Bold and the Beautiful's Heather Tom was named Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for the second consecutive year, while her co-star Scott Clifton was jointly awarded Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series alongside The Young and the Restless' Billy Miller.
The creative talent behind The Bold and the Beautiful scored both the writing and directing accolades in the Outstanding Drama Series team categories, but the coveted Outstanding Drama Series award went to Days of Our Lives.
Lucas celebrated his first Emmy win for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which was named Outstanding Special Class Animated Program, and accepted the award from Princess Leia, actress Carrie Fisher.
There were no surprises in the Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment category - that accolade went to The Ellen DeGeneres Show for the seventh time, beating Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters' The View and rival panel show The Talk, which features Sharon Osbourne, Aisha Tyler and Sara Gilbert.
The Young and the Restless icon Jeanne Cooper, who died last month (May13), was gone but not forgotten at the 40th annual ceremony - she was remembered during the In Memoriam segment, which was introduced by her son, actor Corbin Bernsen.
The Los Angeles event, which celebrates the best in daytime programming as voted for by members of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, was not the smoothest of ceremonies - Aisha Tyler was given the wrong envelope as she presented the best informative talk show award and had to stall as the correct one was located, while a pre-taped tribute reel for Lifetime Achievement honouree Monty Hall had to be cut off after the beloved game show veteran was called to the stage early.

Rocker-turned-actor Lenny Kravitz has credited his grandfather's early morning visits for giving him the drive to see projects through. The wise old man would drip water on the star's forehead to wake him up and then insist on a spot of dawn gardening.
In a new TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, which will air in America on Sunday (02Jun13), the Let Love Rule singer recalls, "He would come up to the house at 5am, before school... I would awaken to water droplets coming down on my head.
"I would wake up and here was this man standing over me with this water thing: 'Good morning grandpa, what's up?' 'I want you to put your clothes on and meet me in the backyard.'
"There was no back talking. Get to the backyard (and he'd say), 'OK, I want you to go over to that tree, and you see that tree needs pruning I want you to... cut the branches... and pile them up.
"Then, it would be about chopping the wood, making the piles of the different sizes of wood. Stringing them up, getting them all together, dragging them one by one back up the hill to the front of the house. And I would say to him, 'Why are you making me do this?... We could have somebody come do this, why am I doing this?'
"He would say to me, 'Because I need you to understand follow through. Completing each step to get the result that you're looking for.'
"It drove me crazy but it was wonderful. And, you know, between that and the experience (I had) in the choir, I knew how to accomplish things. I knew how to take the steps. And that has turned me into an incredibly driven individual."
More prestigious than a Soapie, but a little less prestigious than a Primetime Emmy, the Daytime Emmys will hold its 40th annual ceremony this year. The nominations for the 2013 Daytime Emmy Awards were announced on Wednesday morning and perennial favorite The Young and the Restless leads the pack with 23 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series (helping CBS become the most-nominated network this year, with 50 nods total), while The Ellen DeGeneres Show has the most of any talk show with 10 nominations, including Outstanding Talk Show. (Ellen will dance off against The View, The Talk, and Live! With Michael and Kelly).
Outstanding Talk Show Host nominees include Anderson Cooper (for his since departed show Anderson Live), Steve Harvey, Ricki Lake, Dr. Mehmet Oz and Rachael Ray, while Billy Eichner will have something to shout about: the Billy on the Street host is nominated for Outstanding Game Show Host. He'll face off against Ben Bailey (Cash Cab), Wayne Brady (Let's Make a Deal), Steve Harvey (Family Feud), and Alex Trebek (Jeopardy).
The morning talk show wars will continue in the Outstanding Morning Program, as rivals Today (which includes both Ann Curry and Matt Lauer as nominees, so maybe it should also be in the Outstanding Drama Series category) and Good Morning America will face off against CBS Sunday Morning. Speaking of headline-grabbing nominees, an underage sex scandal controversy didn't stop Sesame Street puppeteer Kevin Clash from being nominated in the Outstanding Performer in a Children's Series for his work as Elmo. (Clash resigned from the iconic PBS program — which is nominated in the Outstanding Pre-School Children's Series category — back in November in the wake of the allegations).
For the full list of nominees, including categories like Outstanding Culinary Program and Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program, here. The 2013 Daytime Emmy Awards will be held on June 16 at the Beverly Hilton and broadcast by HLN.
