Stars like Charlie Sheen and Jesse Tyler Ferguson have flooded Twitter.com with messages of support to Joan Rivers and her family. The 81-year-old comedienne was hospitalised in New York on Thursday (28Aug14) after suffering cardiac and respiratory arrest during routine throat surgery.
She was placed in a medically-induced coma but her condition has been described as "serious" but "stable" by the star's daughter Melissa and hospital staff at Mount Sinai.
And after Melissa Rivers confirmed the news about her mother's health crisis in a statement, the acid-tongued funnywoman and fashion critic's famous friends offered their well wishes.
Actor Sheen wrote, "Please come back to us young lady," while Modern Family star Ferguson offers, "Sending all my love and prayers to my friend @Joan_Rivers right now."
Other tweets poured in from Rosie O'Donnell, Larry King, Ellen DeGeneres, Zachary Quinto and Courtney Love, who wrote, "Hang in there @Joan_Rivers So many awful gowns are going to be worn this year as bait for you pull through. Love and prayers Court."
Meanwhile, comedian and TV roast master Jeff Ross made light of his friend's health crisis, joking, "Don't worry folks, @Joan_Rivers won't die because she refuses to follow Robin Williams. Get well mama. We need you."
Williams died earlier this month (Aug14).
Comedienne Joan Rivers has reportedly been placed in a medically-induced coma after suffering cardiac and respiratory failure during a medical procedure on Thursday (28Aug14).
Rivers was getting her vocal cords checked at a clinic in New York when she started fighting for breath. She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital and placed in a coma as members of her family were alerted to her condition.
The New York Daily News reports doctors will take the 81 year old out of the coma this weekend (30-31Aug14) and assess any damage.
Her aide Graham Reed told the Daily News, "She’s not conscious, but she’s stable." Initial reports suggested Rivers was in a critical condition. A spokesman for the hospital has released a brief statement, which reads: "Her family wants to thank everybody for their outpouring of love and support. We will provide an update on her condition as it becomes available."
The comedienne's daughter Melissa has reportedly flown to New York from her home in California to be at her mother's bedside.
Iron Man Robert Downey, Jr. has branded the summer blockbuster Guardians Of The Galaxy the "best Marvel movie ever". The Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced a new superhero in Peter Quill/Star Lord, played by Chris Pratt, earlier this month (14), and the film quickly become a hit, surpassing the $500 million (£301 million) mark in the global box office.
In a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, Downey, Jr. graciously admits the newest addition to the Marvel family is the one to beat.
He said, "Guardians of the Galaxy, in some ways, is the best Marvel movie ever. It's odd for someone with - on occasion - an ego the size of mine to actually say that...
"It's like you have a great quarterback, and his brother plays for another team, and then you say: 'Look, this is their second cousin and we think he has a great arm and he should start.' And then he goes and wins the Superbowl!"
Ironically, Guardians director James Gunn said at the film's recent press conference in London that he and Pratt have discussed at length what would happen if Downey, Jr. and the rest of The Avengers had a face-off with Quill and his team.
Gunn revealed, "Chris and I were driving somewhere the other day and in the car we were having one of our ridiculous conversations and we were talking about all the different things that could happen to the Guardians in this universe, like we do endlessly, we talk about it constantly.
"And he was saying, 'Dude seriously, I really really think that Star Lord should kill Iron Man. Like it would be so awesome and if he shot him, people would be so surprised".
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been given a very special wedding present - a pair of rescued chinchillas.
The couple wed in secret in France at the weekend (23Aug14) and now activists at PETA have honoured the animal-loving pair by naming two newly-free pets after them. Brad and Angelina are up for adoption at PETA's Virginia headquarters after the organisation's leaders closed down one of the largest chinchilla ranches in California.
Announcing the furry wedding gift, PETA senior vice president Lisa Lange tells WENN, "Among Brad's and Angelina's kind acts are their animal rescues, as well as making their wardrobes fur-free, so naming two of PETA's rescued chinchillas in their honour seems an apt wedding present. "We can all follow this couple's great example, and help chinchillas like Brad and Angelina, by refusing to wear any real animal fur."
The pets are two of more than 400 chinchillas rescued from Valley View Chinchilla Ranch, where animals deemed not suitable as pets were electrocuted and skinned so their pelts could be made into bedspreads, coats and scarves. PETA bosses have sent the newlyweds a letter alerting them to their wedding present.
Angelina Jolie's actor father Jon Voight is "happy" for his daughter and her new husband Brad Pitt after learning of the couple's top secret nuptials in France. The Tomb Raider star wed the Hollywood actor in Correns, France on Saturday (23Aug14), and their wedding was a very private affair, attended by close friends, family members and couple's six children.
However, Jolie's father Voight was not among the small group of guests, and it appears he knew nothing of the ceremony as he prepared for Monday's Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, where he was nominated for his role in Ray Donovan.
After news of the nuptials broke on Thursday (28Aug14), Voight released a statement wishing his daughter and her new husband all the best.
He says, "It sounds like it was a wonderful wedding. It must have been very beautiful with the kids participating... They were able to do it very quietly. I'm very happy for them."
The nondenominational civil ceremony was officiated by a Californian judge, who gave Jolie and Pitt their marriage licence in the U.S. before flying out to France to oversee the nuptials.
Weezer star Rivers Cuomo has found peace in his relationship with his once-estranged father revealing he watches videos of his preacher dad's sermons to prepare for concert performances. The Buddy Holly singer's drummer dad walked out on the family when he was four and he only saw his father four times in 20 years.
Cuomo vented his frustrations over his fractured relationship with his dad in the Weezer song Say It Ain't So, calling him an ex-drunk, but now he has resolved his issues with his father.
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "Now I see him all the time. Now that I'm a father, I've forgiven my parents.
"He (father) has the same body type, the same type of voice. Like me, he's very introverted."
Britney Spears has written a touching letter to a gay fan who credited her with giving him the strength to 'come out'. David LeCours met the Womanizer hitmaker before her concert in Las Vegas last week (ends24Aug14) and he handed her a letter thanking her for helping him come to terms with his sexuality and giving him the courage to tell his family and friends.
On Tuesday (26Aug14), a heartwarming letter of reply, written by Spears, arrived at LeCours' home.
The singer wrote, "I was so happy to receive your letter. I was very happy to hear about how courageous you've been about being openly gay. I've always been told as long as you know in your heart that's what matter most (sic)...
"I try to follow my heart and dreams every day of my life and I think that's why I am where I am today. It means so much to me to have a fan like you who takes the time to sit and write me such a touching letter. Your letter was both touching and sincere. I wish you nothing but the best in the future and hope you keep smiling. Shine bright always, Britney Spears."
LeCours adds on Instagram.com, "I honestly have no words at all. I just want to thank you so much for taking the time to write me back and being such an amazing inspiration to me. You mean more than anything to me and it means more than you know for responding to me. Thank you so much, I love you."
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have stunned Hollywood by announcing they tied the knot in a secret ceremony on Saturday (23Aug14).
The Tomb Raider star wed the Hollywood actor at a small chapel at Chateau Miraval in Correns, France, a spokesman for the couple confirms.
The private, nondenominational civil ceremony was attended by family and friends of the superstar couple, and was conducted by a Californian judge, who gave Jolie and Pitt their marriage licence in the U.S.
The couple's six children were all involved in the wedding - Maddox and Pax walked Jolie down the aisle, Shiloh and Knox were ring bearers, while Zahara and Vivienne threw flower petals. Shiloh, eight, and twins Knox and Vivienne, six, are the couple's biological children while Maddox, 13, Pax, 11, and Zahara, nine, are adopted.
Jolie and Pitt began dating in 2005 after meeting on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and they have been dogged by marriage speculation for years. They got engaged in 2012. It is Pitt's second marriage following his divorce from actress Jennifer Aniston in 2005. Jolie was previously wed to actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton.
Actress Gabrielle Union and her fiance Dwayne Wade will order their friends and family to sign a confidentiality agreement at their wedding this weekend (30-31Aug14).
The Bad Boys II star is set to tie the knot with the professional basketball player on Saturday (30Aug14) in Miami, Florida and they have instructed guests to dress in formal clothing, with all men wearing black and the women in white.
Union has banned cell phones and cameras from the ceremony to protect the couple's privacy, and they will ask guests to sign a contract promising they will not discuss the wedding publicly. Guests have been told to bring photo identification with them. They will be processed by security officials and ordered to sign the agreement before entering the venue.
The document, obtained by TMZ.com, states that anyone caught spilling information will be hit with a fine for unspecified damages.
Bosses of the retirement home where Lord Richard Attenborough lived in his final years have cancelled their open day as a mark of respect for the late actor/director. The Jurassic Park star died on Sunday (24Aug14), aged 90, at Denville Hall care home for retired actors in north London, where he moved in 2008 to spend his final years.
Officials at the residence have cancelled their Open Day event in September (14) as a mark of respect to Attenborough, who served as President there.
A spokesperson tells Britain's Daily Telegraph, "This is our version of dimming the lights of Broadway... a blazing light in all our lives has gone out."
The director's family has asked fans who want to pay tribute to Attenborough to make donations to the home, where his widow Sheila Sim still lives.
A public memorial will be held for Attenborough in November (14).
