Fifty Shades Of Grey star Jamie Dornan is convinced he lost the chance to star in movie musical Rock Of Ages after taking a swig of whiskey right before his audition - and vomiting.
The actor reveals he tried out for a leading role in the big screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical, but he felt the part slipping away from when his audition went horribly awry.
He tells Variety, "I had to sing (Foreigner's) Waiting for a Girl Like You. It's nearly impossible to sing, and I've got quite a deep voice when I sing. My audition was at 10 in the morning on the Warner Bros. lot (and) I convinced myself it would be a good idea to have a bit of whiskey to relax my vocal cords and maybe as a bit of a confidence booster. I took a swig of Jameson and I instantly f**king puked.
"So I'm standing with all these executives driving around in golf carts, as I'm vomiting on the lot. It was a bad look. I hadn't been clever enough to bring mouthwash. And then I had to go in, stinking of whiskey and vomit and proceed to sing Waiting For a Girl Like You, which I couldn't sing."
He admits, "It was the worst situation ever. Obviously, I didn't hear anything back."
While Dornan didn't reveal what role he was up for, Diego Boneta sang Waiting For a Girl Like You in the film, as wannabe rock star Drew Boley.
Hit musical Rock Of Ages is set to end its run on Broadway after six years in the spotlight. The Tony-nominated show, which currently features former American Idol contestant Constantine Maroulis and Ariana Grande's brother Frankie J., will shut down in New York on 18 January (14).
Producer Jonathan Linden says, "As a team we've experienced the greatest - and in many ways, unexpected - joys of having a hit show and being a part of the Broadway community.
"From performing at the Tony Awards, to the Super Bowl, and Times Square on New Year's Eve, this has been the ride of a lifetime for the entire Rock of Ages family and I am so proud of what we've all accomplished."
The show debuted at the the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in April, 2009 following runs off-Broadway and in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
It's still a hit touring production.
Former American Idol star Constantine Maroulis has pulled out of performing in Rock Of Ages after he was injured on stage on Sunday (26Oct14). The Tony-nominated actor was dancing in a performance of the musical when he hurt his leg and had to pull out of the show to see a physician.
A source tells New York Post gossip column Page Six that the star has tore a calf muscle and is expected to be out of the show for a several weeks while he rests.
Maroulis, who plays leading character Drew in the production, shared his misery with fans by posting a photograph of himself on Instagram.com with the caption, "Stay tuned fight fans... Yet another scan at #specialsurgery but needless to say I will be missing some @rockofagesmusical for the time being. I hate letting you down."
Ariana Grande's older brother Frankie is heading back to Broadway after landing a role in hit musical Rock Of Ages. YouTube.com star Frankie Grande, who recently finished fifth on U.S. reality show Big Brother, will play German developer Franz at the Helen Hayes Theatre from 10 November (14) until 18 January (15).
The 31 year old admits the job is a dream come true after previously auditioning for the same part over the years.
He says, "I'm so unbelievably excited. I have wanted to play Franz ever since I first saw the show. I think it is one of the best, funniest, most clever roles."
Celebrating the news on Twitter.com, his pop star sister writes, "huge congrats to my big brother @FrankieJGrande going back to Broadway. so so proud of u! u deserve it (sic)".
Frankie is no stranger to New York's famous theatre district - he previously appeared as part of the cast of Mamma Mia! in 2007, while Ariana followed in his footsteps by featuring in Broadway's A New Musical in 2008.
Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell is taking a break from touring to focus on beating cancer once and for all. The Pour Some Sugar On Me hitmaker announced his Hodgkin's lymphoma was in remission in November (13), but had to backtrack when medics advised him the disease had returned at the beginning of 2014.
In July (14), he was informed his cancer was in remission once again, but Campbell has been advised by doctors to pursue stem cell surgery to complete his treatment - and ensure he stays free of the disease.
In a message on the band's official website, he writes, "As many of you know, I've been scheduled to start a stem cell transplant and as soon as I got home from tour I began the necessary tests and preparations. I'll be admitted to hospital soon for all the yucky bits...
"Unfortunately, this means that I won't be able to perform with the band on the upcoming NFL (National Football League) broadcast on Sept. 28th, nor will I be able to do the shows scheduled for Oct/Nov. While I can't say that I'm looking forward to the process ahead, I'm very much looking forward to what I feel will be a most successful outcome.
"Next year will be very busy for Def Leppard with a new album and a world tour, and frankly, I don't think they would sound as loud without me, so I have no intention of letting the team down! See you all (with hair!) in 2015..."
Rockers Poison are in talks to hit the road again in 2015. Singer Bret Michaels and drummer Rikki Rockett and company often get together for corporate shows and are booked to perform their hits at private concerts booked for October (14) and January (15), and now there are plans to perform for the real fans again.
Michaels tells the Cleveland Scene, "It looks like it (tour) will happen. It's been a few years. We just want to put together the right package and show to celebrate with everyone.
"When the time's right, I'm sure it will happen. We are all just in different places right now, but we are never done making music."
Poison last regrouped for a tour as part of North America's Rock Of Ages dates with Def Leppard in 2012.
Mexican star Diego Boneta has landed a record deal with Sony Music U.S. Latin. The Rock of Ages actor already has an established music career in his native country but he is hoping to have the same success with a newly inked deal with the major music label.
In an interview with Billboard, Boneta says he is eager to launch a successful singing career that is consistent with his acting one.
He says, "The idea is not to simply release an album but create a strategy that's congruent with my career. Diego the actor and Diego the singer are managed completely separate from one another."
Boneta has had roles in U.S. TV series Pretty Little Liars and 90210, and he is one of Mexico's biggest stars. He was a finalist on music reality show Codigo F.A.M.A. at age 12, and at 15 had a role on popular soap opera Rebelde.
He's released two successful Spanish-language solo albums, and plans on releasing both an English and Spanish EP with Sony Music in early 2015.
Sideways star Paul Giamatti has given F. Gary Gray's N.W.A. biopic some real star power after signing on to play music mogul Jerry Heller in the film. Heller, who represented Elton John, Pink Floyd and Journey, managed the rap act that featured Ice Cube and Dr. Dre.
He also founded Ruthless Records with N.W.A. star Eazy-E.
Giamatti joins producer Ice Cube's son O'Shea Jackson, Jr. who will portray his dad in the movie, Straight Outta Compton, and other actors including Jason Mitchell and Corey Hawkins.
It's not the first time he'll play a ruthless music boss on the big screen - he portrayed Tom Cruise's slippery manager Paul Gill in Rock of Ages.
