A bass is said to have been snatched from the musicians following Maroulis' performance at the Love Heals gala in New York's Hamptons on Saturday (19Jul14).
A source tells New York Post gossip column Page Six that police officers are attempting to track down the culprit using pictures taken at the event.

Guests at the event included socialite Nicky Hilton.
Kim Kardashian's sisters Kourtney and Khloe have been targeted in a poster campaign by residents of the area where they are filming their latest reality TV show. The socialites have been spending time in New York's The Hamptons for their latest TV project, but their presence in the exclusive beachside community has annoyed some locals.
Stickers emblazoned with a crossed out picture of the pair's faces and the words "#NODASH" have been plastered on a number of public signs throughout the area.
The statement is a reference to the Kardashian fashion chain Dash, which is the focus on their new show Kourtney and Khloe Take The Hamptons as they open a pop-up shop in the area.
Pictures of the defaced signs have been published on TMZ.com.

Kim Kardashian's sisters Khloe and Kourtney have upset residents in The Hamptons, New York by allegedly filming on a public beach without notifying local authorities. The reality TV stars were reportedly shooting footage for their new series Kourtney & Khloe Take The Hamptons on Indian Wells Beach near East Hampton last week (ends22Jun14).
However, local residents are questioning whether the film crew secured the proper permits for the shoot.
A town board meeting has been held to discuss the issue and members urged residents to contact police if they spot any potentially unauthorised filming.
East Hampton Town trustee Diane McNally tells the New York Post's gossip column Page Six, "Who gave the Kardashians permission to film? The trustees should have been notified if they had applied for a permit to film on the beach, and we were not notified. Filming on our beaches is disruptive. Our residents are entitled to peace and quiet. I suggest that if anyone sees the Kardashians filming on the beach, they should call the police, because they are not legally there."
Country star Taylor Swift has picked up a few new recipes from her culinary idol Ina Garten after enjoying a special lunch date with her for America's Food Network Magazine. The Love Story hitmaker, a keen baker who owns all of the TV chef's recipe books, was recently invited to join Garten at her home in The Hamptons, New York for the publication's first-ever Music Issue.
The singer, who was accompanied by her mother Andrea Finlay and brother Austin Swift, was served freshly-baked date bread upon her arrival, before the Barefoot Contessa show host taught the 24 year old how to make a mustard-roasted fish and decorate a Pavlova meringue dessert with whipped cream.
Garten also served Swift her first whiskey sour drink as they bonded over their shared frustration for guests who refuse to eat.
The blonde beauty revealed, "I'll cook for these boys, and they'll be like, 'I'm on a diet'. I'm like, 'I can't hang out with you.'"
The stars ended their lunch meeting by forgoing plates and digging straight into the Pavlova, with Garten quipping, "I don't always eat it this way!"
Swift also invited Garten to visit her new Manhattan apartment and attend one of her future concerts.
Swift isn't the only celebrity to take part in the July/August (14) Music issue - Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan teamed up with chef Jeff Mauro, rapper Ja Rule cooked with Geoffrey Zakarian and rocker Sammy Hagar took over the kitchen with Michael Symon.

Kanye West has sparked rumours he is feuding with Jay Z after he dropped the rapper's name from lyrics in his songs during a recent concert. The Stronger hitmaker invited Jay Z and wife Beyonce to his wedding in Italy last month (May14), but the superstar couple opted to spend the weekend in the Hamptons, New York with their daughter, Blue Ivy, instead.
Now rumours are circulating the two may be feuding after West dropped Jay Z's name from several song lyrics during his performance at the X Games in Austin, Texas this past weekend (07-08Jun14). According to reports, West omitted the 99 Problems hitmaker from his track Cold, which normally reads, "Lucky I ain't had Jay drop him from the team," and references his new bride's ex-husband Kris Humphries.
He then switched up the lyrics on Blood on the Leaves, in which he usually raps, "I don't give a damn if you used to talk to Jay Z/He ain't with you, he with Beyonce, you need to stop actin' lazy," to just, "You need to stop actin' crazy". And he also reportedly left out his moniker on Touch the Sky.
Following the concert, a fan commented about the omissions, writing, "First time he (skipped Jay Z's name), I (thought), 'Ehh that's odd, maybe he's just letting the crowd finish it whatever.' Then (Kanye) skipped his name again... Definitely obvious and intentional."
Meanwhile, Kanye's new mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, has spoken out about Beyonce and Jay Z's absence from the wedding, saying, "There was so much commotion and excitement, I never really gave that a second thought. "If you had been there, you would have thought that was the last thing on anyone's mind. (I) just assumed they were working."

(I) just assumed they were working." The notoriously-private hip-hop supercouple stayed in the U.S. and instead vacationed in the Hamptons in New York.
