Hollywood actor Denzel Washington has launched a public campaign to install himself as the next James Bond.
The Training Day star hopes to replace Daniel Craig and become the first black actor to play 007, and he has asked devotees to bombard producers with messages via Twitter.com. During a web chat on Reddit.com, Washington was asked about his Bond ambitions, and he urged fans to get the campaign underway.
He explains, "The next James Bond? They better hurry up! Yes I would (love to do it)! Who's doing James Bond now... Daniel Craig! Did they shoot another one? Everybody should tweet Denzel is James Bond! Send it to the studio! We start the Denzel is Bond campaign today! James Washington. Denzel Bond!"
The actor's remarks sparked a flurry of posts on Twitter with the hashtag #DenzelisJamesBond.

Irish pop star Una Foden is expecting her second child.
The Saturdays singer confirmed her pregnancy news on Monday (08Sep14), revealing she and her rugby player husband Ben Foden are preparing to welcome a sibling for their two-year-old daughter Aoife Belle.
In a post on Twitter.com, she writes, "I know lots of people have been guessing and Ben and I can now confirm that Aoife is going to have a baby brother or sister next year!!! We're all very happy."
The singer's news was announced on the same day British royal Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge confirmed she is also expecting a second child.
Jennifer Garner was left without a cell phone after her husband Ben Affleck pushed her into the family swimming pool following his ice bucket challenge. The Argo star allowed his wife to drench him in cold water to raise money and awareness for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease and motor neurone disease, last month (Aug14).
In the video clip, Affleck is shown grabbing Garner after she drenched him and pulling her into the family swimming pool with him.
The Alias star has now revealed the stunt was unplanned, and it broke her cell phone which she had in her pocket at the time of the dunking.
Garner tells Access Hollywood, "If you drop your phone, or if your husband tosses you in the pool on the ALS Challenge and you weren't expecting it, and your phone was in your back pocket and it got killed... you have to go a day without your phone!... I had a day without my phone, and at first, it was, 'Ben, you could have told me, so I could have taken it out of my pocket,' but (then) it was so liberating not to have it and not to check it, and just be like, 'Well, people will have to call me if they need me!'"

Australian rocker Jimmy Barnes was recovering from back surgery in hospital on Sunday (07Sep14) when his latest album hit the top spot on the Australian music chart. The 58 year old underwent an operation at the start of the month (Sep14) but suffered complications on Saturday (06Sep14) and was admitted to a medical centre for an emergency procedure.
He spent Australia's Father's Day (07Sep14) recovering in hospital surrounded by family and friends, and also celebrated his 10th number one solo album while under the care of doctors.
Barnes hit the top of the charts Down Under on Sunday with his latest disc 30:30 Hindsight.
The musician has cancelled all events scheduled for this week (beg08Sep14) so he can rest at home following his discharge from the facility.
In a post on Facebook.com, he writes, "Unfortunately I've had to pull out of tomorrow's Q and A (question-and-answer) on (network) ABC as per the doctors orders. Surgery went well, and will be resting up for the next week."
Hollywood actor James Mcavoy showed off his sporting skills by playing in a Scottish celebrity soccer match over the weekend (06-07Sep14). The Atonement star joined a squad for the game at the Celtic Park stadium in Glasgow, Scotland on Sunday (07Sep14) to raise funds for a number of good causes, including War Child and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
During the game, McAvoy scored a goal to help the team led by retired Scottish soccer player Paul McStay to a 3-2 victory over a squad led by sports star Rio Ferdinand.
The actor says of the feat, "It was like a weird dream. I couldn't believe it even when I scored."

Comedian Bill Murray turned taxi driver for a night last week (ends05Sep14) after taking over the wheel so his Californian cabbie could practise his saxophone skills. The Ghostbusters star made the revelation during an appearance at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada on Friday (05Sep14), which organisers had named Bill Murray Day, when he recalled how his cab driver on Thursday night (04Sep14) had mentioned he was a saxophone player.
He explained, "I said, 'When do you practice?' He said, 'I drive 14 hours a day.'"
The response prompted Murray to offer to swap places with the taxi driver, who agreed to perform for the movie star from the backseat of the car.
Murray continued, "Not only did he play all the way to Sausalito (in California), which is a long way, we stopped and got barbecue. He (wound up) playing in what some would call a sketchy, weird place in Oakland (California) at 2.15 in the morning... It was great and it made for a beautiful night!"
