Rapper Lil Wayne has accused police in New Orleans, Louisiana of fatally shooting a childhood friend by mistake on Sunday morning (16Feb14), hours after he had been partying with his pal at hip-hop mogul Bryan 'Birdman' Williams' 45th birthday bash. Keith 'Magik' Atkinson was killed as cops were called to investigate a shoplifting incident at a corner store. The suspect was reported to have been wearing a blue shirt similar to the one the shooting victim had on, but witnesses claim he was not the thief and were stunned when one of the officers, Jonathan Hirdes, opened fire.
Cops claim they found a gun that had been stolen last May (13) next to his body, although the reasons for Hirdes' actions were unclear and are currently under investigation as police officials try to determine if the shooting was justified.
Wayne took to his Twitter.com account on Sunday to mourn the loss of his pal, writing, "R.I.P 2my homie Magik from my hood, just with him last nite kops killed him this morning, had a drink in his hand, not a gun.dats dat bulls**t (sic)".
And Mack Maine, president of Wayne's Young Money Entertainment record label, adds, "Just saw my homey last night hadn't spoke (sic) to him in a minute (while)...today the police killed him... crazy... #RIPMagic".
Atkinson had spent his Saturday night (15Feb14) catching up with Wayne and Maine as they celebrated their pal Birdman's birthday at a lavish private bash.

Reports suggest the production assistant's body was found in a bathtub, with prescription and non-prescription drugs found on the scene.
Los Angeles County Coroner representative Lieutenant Fred Corralis released a new statement about the death on Monday.
It reads: "Nancy Motes was found dead at a residence in the bathroom yesterday, pronounced dead by the LA Fire Department at 2:12pm yesterday. Not sure whose residence it was. She was found in a bathtub that had water in it. We're taking it as a suicide, not a drowning. She's being examined today. We are waiting for the doctor to provide his findings.
"There were prescription and non-prescription drugs found at the scene. Cannot tell you what those drugs were. The role the drugs may or may not have played is not yet known. Desperate Housewives actor Shawn Pyfrom has thanked his fans for their messages of support after he admitted on Sunday (02Feb14) that he is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. The actor felt compelled to open up about his addiction after learning about the shock death of Capote actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who passed away from an apparent drug overdose, aged 46.

He writes, "Thank you to everyone who sent their love and support today, after I posted my open letter. I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. But I didn't write this letter just for me. I wanted for anyone out there, who may be struggling like I was, to know that there is strength in admitting your weaknesses.
"Hope, no matter how bleak things may seem. And support, no matter how alone you may feel. Crutches may help carry the weight of what sits upon the broken. But no one can heal until they test what may be mended - knowing what they can carry on their own... you are loved. Thank you for letting me share. And thank you for sharing your love with me."

Supermodel-turned-TV personality Tyra Banks is in talks to reprise her role as a doll come to life in a sequel to hit Disney TV movie Life-Size. The runway beauty starred alongside a young Lindsay Lohan in the 2000 release, and she has now confirmed a follow-up is in the works.
Speaking to DigitalSpy.com on Sunday (19Jan14), Banks said, "I have a meeting today to go over the script! I swear! I don't think it'll be out until probably 2015, but I'm guessing it could be late 2014 or 2015. But it will be back, Life-Size will be back, better than ever."
She refrained from sharing any more details about the planned plot, but insisted it would be "very modern - a modern take".

Actress Jessie Mueller has been hailed as Broadway's next big star after winning rave reviews for her portrayal of singer/songwriter Carole King in a new stage musical. Beautiful: The Carole King Musical opened at the Stephen Sondheim Theater in New York City on Sunday night (12Jan14), and critics have been quick to praise the show's star for her performance.
Ben Brantley of the New York Times made it clear Mueller is the best element of the production, writing, "Originality is clearly not this show's strong suit. With one very important exception. That's Ms Mueller, a Broadway star in waiting for several years, who here steps confidently into the VIP room of musical headliners."
Elysa Gardner of USA Today also singles out Mueller for her star turn, writing, "Jessie Mueller... is a singer with exquisite tone and great flexibility - and one of our best young musical actresses to boot... Mueller's portrayal of King (is) far and away the best reason to see Beautiful..."
The Hollywood Reporter's David Rooney adds, "This is entertaining boomer bait that elevates its by-the-numbers narrative with great songs. It's also a tremendous showcase for the talented Jessie Mueller as she embodies King's blossoming from songwriter-for-hire to empowered performer of her own material."
Joe Dziemianowicz of the New York Daily News concurs: "Best of all is Mueller... She doesn't sound all that much like King, but brings lots of sweetness and some depth to the role. Now that's beautiful."
Prior to opening night, King sent her best wishes to the cast along with her songwriting partners Gerry Goffin, Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann. In a post on Twitter.com, she wrote, "The real Goffin & King, Mann & Weil wish the whole company of Beautiful a great opening night and a long, joyous run!"
