Sir Cliff Richard has turned down a Portuguese honour in the wake of a sex scandal back in his native England. The singer, who owns property in Portugal, was to be presented with the keys to his adopted city of Albufeira, but he has chosen not to accept the honour, following his denial of a sex offence.
Earlier this month (Aug14), his home in Berkshire was raided by police officers following allegations Richard sexually assaulted a boy under the age of 16 in 1985.
Denying the claims, Richard said, "For many months I have been aware of allegations against me of historic impropriety which have been circulating online. The allegations are completely false. Up until now I have chosen not to dignify the false allegations with a response, as it would just give them more oxygen."
The singer was due to be awarded the Freedom of Albufeira on Wednesday (20Aug15), but did not attend the ceremony.
The city mayor Carlos Silva e Sousa told the Daily Telegraph, "Cliff was invited to receive the gold key of the city because he is a distinguished member of Albufeira. It's a big honour. We are recognising big politicians and figures in civil society. He's not here today because it was his choice.
"It doesn't change my opinion of him. We are very proud of him, he is a big man. He is a very good man and we keep that opinion... I hope to give him the award at some point."
The news comes a day after Richard's publicist revealed the singer would not be returning to Britain from Portugal for a concert at Canterbury Cathedral next month (Sep14).
Sir Cliff Richard has denied rumours of "sexual impropriety" after police raided his home in England on Thursday (14Aug14) over allegations an underage boy was molested in the 1980s. The Living Doll hitmaker's home in Berkshire was searched by cops probing the claim, and within an hour of news of the swoop breaking, he issued a statement denying any wrongdoing.
The singer says, "For many months I have been aware of allegations against me of historic impropriety which have been circulating online. The allegations are completely false. Up until now I have chosen not to dignify the allegations with a response as it would just give them more oxygen. However, the police attended my apartment in Berkshire today without notice except, it would appear, to the press.
"I am not presently in the U.K. but it goes without saying I will co-operate fully should the police wish to speak to me. Beyond stating that today's allegation is completely false, it would not be appropriate to say anything further until the police investigation has concluded."
A spokesman for Britain's South Yorkshire Police confirmed the search relates to an investigation into an allegation of sex abuse against a boy under the age of 16.
The representative says, "Police have gained entry to a property in the Sunningdale area of Berkshire. Officers are currently searching the property. A search warrant was granted after police received an allegation of a sexual nature dating back to the 1980s involving a boy who was under the age of 16 at the time. No one has been arrested and the owner of the property was not present."
Legendary British boxing manager Frank Maloney is undergoing a sex change. The famously tough-talking manager/promoter, who guided Lennox Lewis and David Haye to success, is undergoing gender reassignment treatment. He is now living as a woman and known as Kellie Maloney.
Maloney tells Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper, "I was born in the wrong body and I have always known I was a woman. I can't keep living in the shadows, that is why I am doing what I am today. Living with the burden any longer would have killed me... What was wrong at birth is now being medically corrected... I have never been able to tell anyone in boxing... Can you imagine me walking into a boxing hall dressed as a woman and putting an event on?... But if I had been in the theatre or arts world nobody would blink an eye about this transition."
Maloney managed Lewis from 1989 until 2001, and also worked with Haye and Rendall Munroe among other fighters.
Country star Keith Urban has broken his silence after his recent concert in Massachusetts resulted in dozens of hospitalised fans and an arrest for an alleged rape.
The You'll Think of Me hitmaker brought his Raise 'Em Up Tour to the Xfinity Center in Mansfield on Saturday (26Jul14), but the gig was marred when 46 fans were treated for "alcohol-related" illnesses. More than 20 were sent to local hospitals for further treatment, and an additional 50 revellers were arrested and taken into custody for unspecified reasons.
Also this week (begs28Jul14), an 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl during the concert.
Now Urban has spoken out about the incidents, sending his sympathies to all those involved. He wrote on his website, "My team and I were horrified to learn of the events reported in Boston this past weekend and our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected. This type of behavior stands in stark contrast to the spirit of our shows."
Urban's tour continues throughout the U.S. until mid-September (14).
British pop star Lily Allen is still amazed she is a married woman as she feels her husband Sam Cooper is too good for her. The pair wed in 2011 after getting together at British music festival Glastonbury in 2009, and they have since had daughters Ethel, two, and Marnie, 18 months.
However, Allen is still overwhelmed by life as a wife as she can't believe she has landed such a perfect man.
The Smile hitmaker tells Australian TV show Today, "I still don't feel worthy of my husband, you know, he's an amazing person and I'm very lucky to even have contact with someone like that, never mind be married to them and have children with them."
Allen also insists she had no intention of relaunching her career last year (13) until Cooper pointed out she was missing a creative outlet, adding, "It never occurred to me, because I was yearning for something but I didn't really know what it was. It was only when my husband said, 'Maybe you need to write again, maybe you need to have that form of expression.' I was like, 'Really? Well, okay,' and I tried it, and it worked. That made me feel better."

British socialite Pippa Middleton felt "embarrassed" by the attention she received for wearing a body-hugging bridesmaid dress on the day her elder sister married Prince William. Kate Middleton became Catherine, Duchess Of Cambridge when she married the British royal in London in 2011, and her younger sibling became a sensation as she escorted her sister down the aisle in front of TV viewers across the globe.
Pippa has now given her first TV interview and spoken of the magical wedding which captured the imagination of millions, insisting she had no idea her sister's big day would be such a huge event.
She tells America's Today show, "It sounds funny to say, but we saw it, as just a family wedding. And actually, I didn't realise, perhaps, the scale of it until afterwards. We all took on the the roles as any family would."
Prince William's sister-in-law also admits she felt embarrassed by the attention her now-famous Alexander McQueen bridesmaid dress received, "It was completely unexpected... I think the plan was not really for it to be a significant dress. Really just to sort of blend in with the (wedding dress) train.. (it was) embarrassing, definitely... it wasn't planned."
She adds of the dress, "It's actually still in my wardrobe at home. I haven't worn it since. But I think I'll just keep it there... I think it's the sort of thing that I'm sure I'll bring out if someone wanted to see it or my children one day want to see it. Then I'll show them."
Pippa goes on to reveal she has felt "publicly bullied" when she reads stories about herself which are not true, but she is adamant joining the royal family has not affected her relationship with her sister, insisting, "We spend a lot of time together. We still do a lot together as a family. We have a very normal, sisterly relationship. We're very close."
Britain's Glastonbury Festival has been marred by a second death just hours before the first official performances kicked off on Friday (27Jun14). A 67-year-woman died of natural causes at the event shortly after the gates opened at the site in Somerset, England on Wednesday (25Jun14), and a male reveller was later admitted to hospital in critical condition after suffering an allergic reaction to the drug ketamine.
The 26-year-old man died in hospital on Friday morning (27Jun14), shortly before the festival got into full swing with performances from acts including the Kaiser Chiefs, John Newman and Blondie.
A statement from local police reads, "A man has died following a suspected reaction to ketamine. The man was taken ill overnight on Wednesday into Thursday and was taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary. Unfortunately he died earlier today (Friday)... His death is not considered suspicious. At this stage we believe this was an individual reaction to ketamine and was not from a bad batch of the drug."
The festival, which runs until Sunday (29Jun14), is also set to feature performances from Arcade Fire, Metallica, Kasabian, Lily Allen, Ed Sheeran and Jack White.
Fans of the hit FX series Sons of Anarchy can't wait until the show's final season debuts this fall which is why some are spending the summer tracking down SOA's Southern California sets.
Today, Sons of Anarchy is filming in their studio, located at 7333 Radford Ave, North Hollywood, CA.
The series' main stage has a unique set up that makes it a must-see for fans visiting the Los Angeles area. The studio – where all of the interior shots of the characters' homes and offices are shot – is connected to the exterior Teller-Morrow Automotive Repair Shop set.
Most TV shows, especially in L.A., have some outdoor sets, but what makes Teller-Morrow stand out is its accessibility. The set is directly on the road (as fans of the show will know) which also means it can be seen from the road, making it a great photo opp for fans whether filming is taking place or not.
As SOA begins to wrap up, executive producer Kurt Sutter is not only writing and producing the show's final season in L.A., he's also flying to and fromo Pittsburgh where the movie Southpaw is just starting production.

Sutter wrote the screenplay for the film which stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a welterweight champion who rises in his profession while his personal life falls apart. Rachel McAdams, Lupita Nyong’o, and Forest Whitaker co-star.
This week Southpaw is filming at the Kovalchick Complex in Indiana, Pennsylvania, located about 60 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Rap mogul Rick Rubin has confirmed reports suggesting he and Kanye West have started work on a sequel to the hip-hop star's Yeezus album. In a new BBC interview the in-demand producer reveals he and Kanye are developing "vocal ideas for things for the next album".
Rubin says, "I love him, I think he’s a great guy, super smart and from a creative standpoint, I can’t think of anyone who has been more consistently great from the time they started making music until now... I think he’s the most consistently great creative person in music today."
And recalling the first time he heard the music for Kanye's last album, the producer adds, "There were loads of great ideas and there were many many tracks and we listened to everything together. He originally came over and said, 'I wanna come play you my new album', and I thought we’d be listening to a finished album. Then we listened to about three hours of music, most of which didn’t have vocals, and at the end I was like, 'Wow, so what’s it gonna be?'
"I’m thinking it’s a year away and he was like, 'Well, I’m putting it out in, like, five to six weeks’. It was just a funny conversation because it was completely normal to him, it’s just the way he works."
