Broadway veteran Harvey Fierstein is working on turning Robin Williams comedy Mrs. Doubtfire into a stage musical. The actor and playwright appeared alongside late funnyman Williams in the 1993 movie and now he is busy adapting it for the theatre.
Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken broke the news to fans on Thursday (22Jan15) during an interview on America's Entertainment Weekly Radio, revealing he and his Hercules collaborator David Zippel will be writing the songs.
Menken, who is known for his work on a string of Disney projects, says, "Harvey Fierstein is writing the book, David Zippel is writing the lyrics, I'm writing the music, and it's going very well. It's in its early stages, and that's probably all I can say. We're really enjoying working on it."
Mrs. Doubtfire starred Williams as divorced dad Daniel Hillard, who cross-dresses as a nanny so he can see his kids. The tragic comedian had been planning to reprise his role for a sequel before committing suicide in August (14).
Mark Wahlberg's blockbuster Transformers: Age Of Extinction has been named among the "worst" films of the year after scoring seven nominations for the 2015 Golden Raspberry Awards. The fourth installment of Michael Bay's action franchise claimed the most nods ahead of the annual prizegiving, which celebrates the worst Hollywood films and performances.
Despite being named the highest-grossing film of 2014 with $1.1 billion earnings at the global box office, the latest Transformers movie is up for Worst Sequel, Worst Screenplay, Worst Screen Combo, Worst Director for Bay, Worst Supporting Actress for Nicola Peltz, and Worst Supporting Actor for Kelsey Grammer.
Transformers is also up for Worst Picture, going up against Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas, Left Behind, The Legend of Hercules and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Saving Christmas and The Legend of Hercules trail Transformers with six nominations each. Cameron and Hercules star Kellan Lutz will face off in the Worst Actor category, along with Nicolas Cage (Left Behind), Seth MacFarlane (A Million Ways to Die in the West), and Razzie regular Adam Sandler (Blended).
Hercules' Gaia Weiss is up for the "dis-honour" of Worst Actress, against Drew Barrymore (Blended), Cameron Diaz (The Other Woman and Sex Tape), Melissa McCarthy (Tammy) and Charlize Theron (A Million Ways to Die in the West).
In addition, a new category has been added this year (14) - the Redeemer Award will be given to a superstar who has been awarded a Razzie in the past, but has since rebounded with critical success.
Among the inaugural group of nominees are Ben Affleck (Gone Girl), Jennifer Aniston (Cake), Mike Myers (Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon), Keanu Reeves (John Wick), and Kristen Stewart (Camp X-Ray).
The 2015 Golden Raspberry Awards will be handed out on 21 February (15), the night before the Academy Awards.
A Million Ways To Die In The West, Transformers: Age Of Extinction, Sex Tape and The Interview will 'fight' for the title of 2014's worst film at the Golden Raspberry Awards in February (15), according to a leaked list of potential nominees. With almost two weeks to go before the official Razzie nominations are announced, awards website GoldDerby.com has obtained the shortlists for Worst Film, Worst Remake, Worst Screenplay, Worst Screen Combo, Worst Director and Worst Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress.
Unsurprisingly, Transformers: Age of Extinction comes out on top with nine considerations including Worst Film, Worst Director (Michael Bay), Worst Sequel, Worst Screenplay and Worst Supporting Actor and Actress (Kelsey Grammer, Nicola Peltz and Sophie Miles).
It is closely followed by Seth MacFarlane's critically-mauled A Million Ways to Die in the West with eight nods, including Worst Film, Worst Director (MacFarlane) and Worst Actress (Charlize Theron). Saving Christmas, Sex Tape, Legend of Hercules and Haunted House 2 land six nominations, according to the leaked list, while Pompeii, The Expendables 3 and Johnny Depp's Transcendence bottom out with five apiece.
Cameron Diaz is among the potential nominees in the Worst Actress category with two films, Sex Tape and The Other Woman, and she's also up for Worst Supporting Actress for her role in Annie, while Glee star Lea Michele's voice in Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return earns her a Razzie consideration for Worst Actress.
Seth Rogen's controversial new comedy picks up four early nods, including Worst Film and Worst Actor (Rogen and James Franco), and movie veteran Jane Fonda could land a Razzie for her role as a lesbian matriarch in This is Where I Leave You, while Kelsey Grammer, Mel Gibson and Arnold Schwarzenegger are all under consideration for a Worst Supporting Actor nomination for The Expendables 3.
The Golden Raspberry Awards nominations will be unveiled on 14 January (15).

Action man Dwayne Johnson has been cast as comic book villain Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam blockbuster. The Hercules star has been hinting about a role in the superhero film for several months and on Wednesday (03Sep14) Johnson revealed he will play the bad guy.
In a message on Twitter.com, he writes,"'Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot'. My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics."
Details surrounding the film have yet to be released, but Shrek Forever After's Darren Lemke is reportedly writing the script, while Hiram Garcia will produce with Johnson, according to Variety.com.
A guest at moviemaker Brett Ratner's after-premiere Hercules party is suing the director for injuries she received at the bash. Stylist Lauryn Flynn claims she left the party at Ratner's Beverly Hills home with a sliced Achilles tendon after she was cut by a shard of glass.
In legal papers filed by Flynn, she alleges she was asked to take off her shoes as she entered the home on 24 July (14).
She was reportedly injured in the basement when a glass table shattered while she was dancing.
In documents obtained by TMZ.com, she claims a decision was made to not call emergency services because it would be bad publicity for the host and his new film. She reveals she took a taxi to the hospital, where she needed 87 stitches to patch up the wound.
Flynn is suing for unspecified damages.

Action man Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has signed on to star in two more Journey to the Center of the Earth sequels.
The Hercules star replaced Brendan Fraser as the star of the franchise for 2012’s Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and the film was such a hit he has been invited back for two move family movies.
Brothers Chad and Carey Hayes, who created horror movie The Conjuring, have been hired to write the screenplay for the two films. They have become friends with Johnson after working with him on new disaster film San Andreas.
A female driver accused of colliding with a vehicle carrying Dwayne Johnson's mother and cousin last week (ends08Aug14) has been charged with DUI. The Hercules star revealed on Sunday (10Aug14) that his mum Ata and cousin Lina Fanene had been hospitalised after the SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) they were travelling in was wrecked by another woman, who is alleged to have been attempting to evade police on a road in Clermont, Florida.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was accused of running through two red lights before colliding with Ata's white Cadillac Escalade, which was a Christmas gift from her actor son in 2012.
The woman, who was also hospitalised with facial injuries, has now been slapped with a count of driving under the influence (DUI), reports TMZ.com.
The female driver who allegedly collided with a car carrying Dwayne Johnson's mother and cousin was involved in a police chase at the time of the crash.
The Hercules star's relatives were travelling home from a charity event in Florida earlier this month (Aug14) when they were involved in a head-on collision. The driver of the other car was allegedly drunk and, according to TMZ.com, she also ran a red light after a police officer attempted a traffic stop.
The officer gave chase, and minutes later the woman collided with Johnson's family's car. The actor's relatives were hospitalised, and the driver was treated for facial injuries.
Police have not yet announced if she will be charged over the crash.
Wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne Johnson is breathing a sigh of relief after his mother and cousin survived an horrific car accident caused by an alleged drunk driver. The Hercules star shared a photo of the wreckage caused by the head-on crash on his Instagram.com blog on Sunday (10Aug14), days after the incident, and confessed he had wanted to track down the suspect and beat him up for putting his mum Ata and cousin, WWE Diva Savelina Fanene, in harms' way.
In the picture caption, he wrote, "My mom & cousin...were struck head on by a drunk driver this week - they lived.
"First reaction is to find the person who did this and do unrelenting harm to them. But then you realize the most important thing is my family lived thru (through) this and we can hug each other that much tighter these days."
He ended the message by adding, "Hug your own family tighter today and be grateful you can tell them you love them."
Johnson, aka The Rock, did not share any details about any injuries his family may have suffered.
