Self-confessed Star Trek fanatic Mira Sorvino was left starstruck on Thursday (14Aug14) after a surprise meeting with veteran franchise star George Takei. The actors were both guests on U.S. breakfast show Today, and Takei was brought out from backstage to greet Sorvino after she showed off her sci-fi knowledge of the cult series.
Actress Tara Reid stunned Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe in the middle of a radio interview in Los Angeles on Friday morning (08Aug14) when she showed up to thank him for supporting her Sharknado films. The Brit was telling DJ Ryan Seacrest he'd love to land a cameo in a third Sharknado film, even suggesting an inventive death scene, when Reid appeared behind him.
The starstruck actor gasped and told Reid, "I'm a fan of your movie, Sharknado 1 and 2. Now that Harry Potter is gone, there is a void for the next big franchise, so I think you should do at least eight of them."
As for his possible death scene in a third Sharknado film, Radcliffe said, "I've been going through scenarios, like you (Seacrest) and me could be doing an interview and then... you say, like, 'Would you ever consider doing another franchise?', and I'll be like, 'No, I'd never be seen dead in one' - (and then) shark (attack)... I have ideas."
In the first Sharknado film, Reid and Ian Ziering fight off flying killer fish sucked up from the sea by a storm over Los Angeles. The sequel, which debuted on TV in America last week (30Jul14), was set in New York City and Reid already has location ideas for a third film, recently telling U.S. news show Access Hollywood she'd love to shoot in Brazil.
Actress Laverne Cox was left starstruck after meeting Jodie Foster on the set of prison drama Orange Is The New Black.
The Silence of the Lambs star directed the third episode of the show's first season, which served as Cox's debut, and the transgender actress admits it was a surreal moment when she first came face-to-face with Foster.
She says, "It was so incredible. My very first day of working on Orange Is the New Black I... was in craft services and this woman comes up to me and was like, 'Hi, I'm Jodie, I'm directing episode three,' and I'm like, 'Um, I know who you are.'"
"She's just standing there and I'm like, 'Why is Jodie Foster talking to me?' and she's like, 'This is your first day, right? Let me show you around,' and then she commences to giving me a tour of the set and I'm like, 'Why is Jodie Foster talking to me?' and she's asking me these questions about my life, like she's really interested, and of course at that point I didn't understand episode three would be my back story episode."
Cox was so shocked after the unexpected meeting, she worried she would not be able to pull off her job on camera. S
he continues, "I got back to my dressing room and I call my brother and I'm shaking and I'm like, 'I just met Jodie Foster and I have to act now and I don't think I can do it,' and he was like, 'Just breathe, you can do it,' and I did it and now I'm nominated for an Emmy."
Cox became the first openly transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy Award when the nods were announced in early July (14). She is competing for the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series accolade.

The Way hitmaker was left starstruck when she found herself in front of the Ace Ventura: Pet Detective star, and in a video posted to Instagram.com, Grande can clearly be seen fighting back tears as she hugs Carrey.
She took to Twitter.com after the meeting and wrote: "met my childhood crush Jim Carrey. (couldn't) even speak. he was kind, warm and human. I'm so happy."
Grande was in Washington, D.C. to perform in the White House gardens, while Carrey read from his kids' book How Roland Rolls.
Actor Dax Shepard was left starstruck when his movie idol Brad Pitt complimented him during the Academy Awards last month (Mar14). The Parenthood star confessed his love for the Hollywood A-lister during an interview with U.S. talk show host Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday (16Apr14), revealing he began idolising for Pitt 20 years ago following his breakout role in 1994's Legends of the Fall.
Shepard explained, "I have really strong, strong feelings about Brad Pitt... Always have. I really am obsessed with him. He has great taste, I love all his movies, he's a phenomenal producer, he's a philanthropist and he's aging so gracefully."
The first time Shepard met Pitt was at the Oscars, where he accompanied wife Kristen Bell, who served as a presenter.
Shepard admitted, "I had never met him, nor did I even want to, because I'd be afraid I wouldn't be able to talk to him... (At the Oscars) Kristen starts pulling my leg, and she goes, 'He's talking to you. He's talking to you!'
"And I turn around and Brad Pitt is talking to me from four rows up! He goes, 'We love your movie.' And in that moment I completely forget that I've directed a movie (2012's Hit and Run) because I just forgot and I go, 'What?'"
After Pitt clarified his comments, Shepard gave a simple 'Thank you' and sat down, but the memorable encounter couldn't have come at a worse time.
He continued, "I am not lying - the second I sat down, the In Memoriam segment stars up... I'm smiling ear-to-ear from the best compliment of my life, and the sad music starts and we start cherishing the folks we've lost.
"It was nearly impossible for me to not smile. And Kristen was like, 'Okay, get it together.' I never got it together! We left... there's photos of me leaving an hour later, like, still smiling."
The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield donned his superhero suit to surprise kids at a children's charity in London on Wednesday (09Apr14). The actor delighted youngsters at Kid City, an after-school organisation for children aged three to 11, as he wore his onscreen alter ego's iconic blue and red suit to meet his fans.
Garfield crashed their pizza party and later took to the basketball court for a friendly game in his Spidey suit with the eager kids.
He eventually shed the costume to sit down with his young audience, happily posing for photos and chatting with the starstruck devotees.
Later that night, he pulled off another surprise by making a cameo for The Punchdrunk theatre company's production of interactive play The Drowned Man.
