Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross have tied the knot.
The couple exchanged vows on Sunday (31Aug14) during a private ceremony at the Greenwich, Connecticut mansion of the groom's mum, Diana Ross, according to multiple reports.
The bride's newlywed sister Jessica Simpson served as Ashlee's matron of honour, almost two months after her own wedding to husband Eric Johnson, while her kids Maxwell, two, and son Ace, 14 months, took on the roles of flower girl and ring bearer, respectively. Bronx Mowgli, Ashlee's five-year-old son with ex-husband Pete Wentz, walked his mum down the aisle.
This is actor Ross' first marriage and the second for Simpson, who was married to the Fall Out Boy rocker from 2008 to 2011. Ross proposed to Simpson in January (14) after just six months of dating.
The bride's father, Joe Simpson, was clearly thrilled about the big day, posting a tweet hours before the nuptials, which read, "Today my little girl gets married. Congrats Ashlee and Evan."
Reports suggest Simpson wore a pearl-embellished white wedding dress and $750,000 (GBP441,000)-worth of Neil Lane rubies.
Kiss star Gene Simmons has been slapped with legal action from a concert security guard who allegedly slipped and fell on the band's confetti during a gig in 2012. The rockers celebrated the end of their show at the Klipsch Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana by spraying water and confetti all over the stage and over members of the crowd.
However, security official Timothy Funk claims the "foolish and reckless" stunt put his safety at risk after he tumbled on the "slippery, waxy, and glassy" stage floor, and now he is suing for damages.
He has filed papers in Hamilton Superior Court, near Indianapolis, seeking compensation for undisclosed injuries, loss of wages and other charges.
Simmons is named as a defendant, alongside venue bosses and officials at concert promotion firm Live Nation.
Actress Blake Lively had a miserable 27th birthday on Monday (25Aug14) as she recovered from a bee attack.
The former Gossip Girl star was being photographed for her lifestyle website, Preserve, on Sunday (24Aug14) when she felt a sudden "electric shock of energy" and realised she had been stung.
In a post on the blog, she writes, "(It was) the final day of the shoot, I felt an electric shock of energy - was it excitement that I was about to turn another year older? Was it nerves? Why did it feel like agony? I like getting older... I think. "But this felt terrible. Does your butt quite suddenly (and painfully) deflate when you turn 27? Because mine hurt like hell... then my neck, back, legs and forehead. And oh my hands! They were shriveling (sic). It felt like I was being shot by dozens of tiny invisible darts. I felt like the Wicked Witch, melting, melting, burning, melting."
She adds, "I don't know enough about insects to say if they were wasps, honeybees or Mother Nature’s miniature flying tasers. What I DO know, is that just moments before we were in the midst of a gorgeous fall fashion shoot. Now, I was a Monty Python sketch; running at top speed in no particular direction, whipping my arms and hands around like I’d just discovered they were growing out of my shoulders without my previous knowledge."
Lively admits she was left shaken after the bee attack, but the swelling didn't completely ruin her birthday - she threw an impromptu party, where guests enjoyed slices of a vanilla cake the actress baked.
Comedienne Joan Rivers is in stable condition at a New York hospital after losing her breath during a routine surgery early on Thursday (28Aug14).
Rivers was admitted to Mount Sinai hospital after she stopped breathing at nearby Yorkville Endoscopy. Initial reports suggested the TV personality was in critical condition, but that appears to have been downgraded, according to Access Hollywood.
Ironically, she joked about her health during a stand-up show at the Laurie Beechman Theatre on Wednesday night (27Aug14), telling fans, "I'm 81, I could go at any moment... I could fall over right here and you all could say, 'I was there!'"
Nobel Prize-nominated poet and screenwriter Valeri Petrov has died, aged 94. Petrov, real name Valeri Nissim Mevorah, passed away on Wednesday (27Aug14) at Sofia Military Hospital in his native Bulgaria. He had been in a coma for several days after suffering a major stroke.
He published his first poem at the age of 15 and released a number of collections over his career. He was also a presenter of Radio Sofia in 1944 and became a war correspondent for a national newspaper.
He received a Nobel Prize nomination for Literature and translated the entire works of William Shakespeare into Bulgarian.
Petrov also wrote novels, plays, and film scripts, including the 2008 drama The Fall.
Rita Ora was convinced she would have to scrap her second prizegiving performance in as many weeks after her collaborator Iggy Azalea fell off stage two days before the MTV Video Music Awards.
The R.I.P. hitmaker had to axe her set at the Teen Choice Awards earlier this month (Aug14) after her ex-boyfriend, DJ Calvin Harris, refused to grant her permission to sing their collaborative track I Will Never You Let You Down. She had also booked an awards appearance with Azalea at the VMAs, but Ora feared she would have to scrap that performance too after the Australian rapper took a nasty tumble during a benefit concert two days before the big show.
However, Azalea was not seriously hurt and the pair was able to take to the stage together to perform their track Black Widow on Sunday night (24Aug14).
Ora tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "Bless her. I was just happy she was OK because, God forbid, we couldn't perform together after all that. Can you imagine? We've been doing three performances a day together to make sure when we release this song it was about unity. To us, this is a duet about female empowerment. We wanted to do a song where it's two blondes coming together as a unit."
Lord Richard Attenborough's son has opened up about his father's final years, revealing the late actor/director never fully recovered from a fall at his home in 2008. The Jurassic Park star passed away on Sunday (24Aug14) at the age of 90 after several years of ill health.
He spent 18 months in hospital following a stroke and a fall at his home in 2008, and was admitted to a care home in 2012, and his theatre director son Michael Attenborough has now revealed his father was never the same after the accident.
He tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "He was quite simply my hero; my supporter, my counsellor, my friend. He changed hugely when he had his accident. He hit his head very badly and I have no idea how he survived. When he emerged after 18 months in hospital, he was obviously not the same man. He couldn't read and write. The two things it was terrible to take away from my dad were his activity and articulation. He could get the odd word out but it was impossible to say sentences.
"He could say my name and that was it. When he first came out of hospital he seemed hugely frustrated but in the last 18 months he was much more resigned."
Rapper M.I.A. has settled her legal dispute with American football bosses after they demanded she hand over $16 million (£9.4 million) for her naughty middle finger salute during Madonna's half-time show at the 2012 Super Bowl. National Football League (NFL) officials sensationally accused the hip-hop star of breach of contract after the big gig, claiming she tarnished the organisation's goodwill and reputation with her rude gesture at the high-profile sporting event.
The provocative Paper Planes hitmaker hit back at the allegations in arbitration papers, insisting painting the NFL as a "wholesome" group is laughable, citing "the weekly felonies committed by its stars", "the homophobic and racist comments uttered by its players" and "the complete disregard for the health of players and the premature deaths that have resulted from" the nature of the contact sport.
The legal case has been rumbling on for more than two years, but now M.I.A. can finally move on from the fall-out after reaching a private settlement with NFL chiefs, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Miley Cyrus decided to use her appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (24Aug14) to raise awareness about homeless youths after realising the "power" she possessed following last year's (13) scandalous performance with Blurred Lines hitmaker Robin Thicke.
The Wrecking Ball singer caused controversy at the 2013 prizegiving by grinding against Thicke as they belted out the catchy tune, and Cyrus admits the fall out from that headline-grabbing show made her rethink how best to use her fame in future. She tells Los Angeles DJ Ryan Seacrest, "I just didn't realise my platform, I didn't realise my power. I really realised it after the VMAs (last year)... there's something special and there's only few people that experience this that no matter what I do, there's no winning or losing, it's just going to be talked about. Period. "There's going to be talk, so what do I want them to talk about? If I'm going to be given this loud of a voice and this big of an image and this big of a platform and this huge of an opportunity to talk to young people in America right now, what am I really trying to say? Because I don't think what I was trying to say is what happened the year before."
Cyrus invited a displaced male simply known as Jesse to be her date for the California ceremony, pretending he was her new boyfriend, and sent him up onstage to accept her award for Video of the Year for Wrecking Ball on behalf of the "1.6 million runaways and homeless youths in the United States, who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now".
He then added, "I know this because I am one of these people..." Cyrus kept Jesse's real identity a secret from everyone around her and the singer reveals it became a real challenge as pal Katy Perry, who was seated next to the pair, tried to get Jesse drunk before his big moment. Cyrus recalls, "I'm like, 'This kid has to give this speech!' I'm like, 'Katy, please don't get Jesse drunk right now...' I didn't want to tell her because I was scared if someone found out, they'd try to stop me... no one knew."
The star has since allowed Jesse to keep her Moonman trophy as a memento of the star-studded night.
Actress Parker Posey has undergone surgery after breaking her wrist in a fall at her home. The Superman Returns star was painting a wall at her new home when she fell from a ladder this summer (14). She subsequently underwent surgery and physiotherapy sessions amid fears the injury could affect her work on Woody Allen's new film, which she has been shooting in Rhode Island over the last few weeks.
She tells the New York Post, "I fell off a ladder during the time I was with Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix in Rhode Island doing Woody Allen's new movie. I'd sold my city apartment and bought a big house upstate with huge space. Having turned myself into a pretzel, I was painting my third room. Alone. By myself. Eager to get the job done, I fell off the ladder and broke my wrist. Big break. Five days later it needed surgery and four therapy sessions.
"I told Woody it was a big break, so everyone sent specialists. What I learned is, you break something and you meet new people."
