Director Brian G. Hutton has died, aged 79. The filmmaker passed away on Tuesday (19Aug14) after suffering a heart attack last week (begs11Aug14).
The New York City native began his career as an actor, but stepped behind the camera after taking part in a directing programme with Universal Studios.
In 1968, Hutton directed Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton in the war classic Where Eagles Dare, and he teamed with the duo again in 1970 for Kelly's Heroes, which also starred Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, Carroll O’Connor and Donald Sutherland.
Hutton also made two movies with Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor - drama X, Y and Zee opposite Michael Caine and Night Watch with Laurence Harvey.
In 1980, Hutton was recruited to replace Roman Polanski as the director of The First Deadly Sin, after his predecessor fled America to escape statutory rape charges. The movie featured Faye Dunaway and Frank Sinatra in his final major film role.
Hutton also directed the films High Road to China, The Pad and How to Use It, and Sol Madrid.
As an actor, Hutton starred in movies like Fear Strikes Out, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, King Creole, The Case Against Brooklyn, and TV shows such as Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, Have Gun - Will Travel, Rawhide and The Rifleman.

The stars were among 150 people who gathered at the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, California for the bash, which featured a performance by David Foster and a mini-roast by veteran comedian Don Rickles. Kirk and producer Anne marked their big day on 29 May (14).
Tracy Morgan's condition has been upgraded to "fair" by doctors following his horrific car crash on 7 June (14).
The former 30 Rock star was left in a critical condition along with his assistant Jeff Millea and fellow comedian Ardie Fuqua after the accident in New Jersey. Comic writer James 'Jimmy Mack' McNair was killed when a truck collided with the group's limo-bus.
Morgan was taken to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he has been receiving treatment for injuries including a broken leg, a broken nose and several broken ribs, and a little over a week after the incident, his condition has stabilised.

Tina Fey, Nick Jonas, and Shailene Woodley are all keeping busy on sets this week. Find out exactly what and where they're filming below:
If you're in downtown Atlanta this week, make sure you look up. Crews have been busy rigging zip lines on rooftops all over downtown, including the top of the Peachtree Center, for the movie Insurgent. On Friday, stuntmen were seen testing the rigs so we can only assume filming will take place this week. The Divergent sequel, which stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, and Ansel Elgort, hits theaters March 20, 2015.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are teaming up again this summer for The Nest. The comedy duo is also back in New York for the movie about two sisters who go home to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell their house. It was also just announced Maya Rudolph has joined the cast making it a true SNL reunion! Today, you can find the ladies are filming off of Mamaroneck Ave in White Plains, N.Y.
Nick Jonas is returning to the small screen this fall for Navy St. The DirecTV series centers on a mixed martial arts gym in Venice, Calif. run by Alvey Henderson (Frank Grillo), whose drug addiction kept him from making it big as a fighter. Jonas plays his youngest son. Navy St. has been filming at the Nelles Correctional Facility in Whittier, Calif. for several weeks. Nelles was also the primary filming location for Kristen Stewart's latest movie, Camp X-Ray.

Julia Roberts, Don Cheadle and Gary Oldman have taken on their meanest critics by responding to their vile tweets as part of a TV skit. The stars were among the celebrities who read out real social media attacks as part of the seventh Mean Tweets segment on U.S. late night show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which aired on Wednesday (21May14).
Roberts could hardly keep a straight face as she read @kemotherapy7's tweet: "There are people who think Julia Roberts is hot!? Her gigantic mouth looks like it will devour an elephant in one bite." She then said, "Thank you kemotherapy7 - and good luck."
Cheadle and Ashton Kutcher simply stared into the camera as they read out their mean tweets, while Courteney Cox responded, "That's sweet!" to @kanara11's "I hate Courteney Cox. I f**king hate her, P**sy hoe."
Andy Garcia, illusionist David Blaine, Jeremy Piven, Emma Stone, Ethan Hawke and comedian Don Rickles also read out their Twitter.com attacks, while Matthew McConaughey quizzically asked, "What the f**k is a d**k turd" when @dippi_mufc called him the name, and Oldman burst into laughter as he read @hoveybenjamin's "Gary Oldman sucks and his accents are f**king annoying as s**t".
But the best response came from Sofia Vergara after she read @mamaowl_kirby's "Sofia Vergara sounds like she has a d**k in her mouth. I hate hearing her talk". The Colombian actress shot back, "What's wrong with having a d**k in my mouth?"
Veteran funnyman Bill Cosby is set to receive the Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence at the upcoming 2014 American Comedy Awards. The 76-year-old comedian will be feted for his outstanding work over the past 50 years during a ceremony on 26 April (14) in New York City.
The prize, named after iconic U.S. talk show host Johnny Carson, is given to "an individual who, over the course of their lifetime, has made an extraordinary contribution to comedy".
The honour was first awarded to Late Show host David Letterman in 2011, and Don Rickles in 2012.
The American Comedy Awards will air in America on 8 May (14).
Jerry Seinfeld and Robert De Niro are set to headline a special TV tribute to veteran comedian Don Rickles. The Toy Story star, 87, will be feted by some of his close pals and Hollywood's biggest stars in One Night Only: An All-Star Comedy Tribute to Don Rickles.
Alongside Seinfeld and De Niro, Rickles' long career in the entertainment business will be remembered by David Letterman, Martin Scorsese, Bob Newhart, Tracy Morgan, John Stamos, Jimmy Kimmel, Regis Philbin, and Jon Stewart.
The show will be taped at New York City's iconic Apollo Theater on 6 May (14) and will air on America's Spike TV network on 28 May.
Veteran comedian Don Rickles is recovering after undergoing multiple surgeries to treat a leg infection. The Toy Story star, 87, was recently forced to axe a series of stand-up shows after suffering from flesh-eating disease necrotising fasciitis, but doctors were able to successfully treat the issue by removing the infected tissue and performing a skin graft.
Rickles is now preparing to return to the stage in the New Year (14) with gigs scheduled in California, Las Vegas and Michigan, among others.
His representative tells the New York Post's Page Six gossip column, "He has been rehabbing the leg, is back on his feet and is doing wonderfully.
"He is looking forward to be back on the road after the first of the year."
My theory is that you don't have a good show unless years later people are wondering what the characters they grew to love are doing in the present day. That's why people so desperately want reunion shows; they have this need to find out if the characters turned out okay. (I'm looking at you, Friends.)
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jerry Seinfeld revealed that Jerry, George, Kramer, and Elaine would probably all be doing, well, the same thing they always do: getting into awkward situations. And more specifically for George? Well he'd be hating life, per usual.
"They're going to be somewhat dysfunctional as we remember them," says Seinfeld in the interview. "I imagine there will be some kids, some divorces, social situations is what I would image for the four of them. George would probably have a wife and kids, very normal, suburban and he would be tortured."
However, for real life Jerry, things are looking up. Seinfeld has seamlessly transitioned from the small screen to the even smaller screen with his current web series, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
In each episode, Seinfeld picks up a guest in a vintage car and cruises the roads with them while they chit chat. And as you can imagine, when you lock two comedians in a car and put a camera on them, things can get pretty silly. The series just finished it's second season with guests Chris Rock, Seth Meyers, Don Rickles, David Letterman, Sarah Silverman, and Gad Elmaleh (Jack and Jill).
And how is Seinfeld adapting to the new video format? He loves it. "It's instantly everywhere," says Seinfeld. "You go right into someone's pocket, wherever they are. And I really love that."

When it comes to 3D animated movies, two names stand out: Pixar and DreamWorks Animation. Big franchise hits such as Toy Story and Shrek have made them animation's top dogs at the box office, leading many to think of them as rival studios. So let's take a look at how these two giants of animation stack up.
Walt Disney/Everett Collection
PixarOf the two animation studios, one could argue that Pixar is the art house of computer animation. With mature, character-driven stories that both adults and children can both laugh and sniffle at, it's no wonder the studio has won the Best Animated Feature Oscar seven of the past 12 years. From 2007 to 2010, Pixar experienced a "golden age," creating animated features that include some of the best movies of all time with Ratatouille, Wall-E, Up, and Toy Story 3.
However, Pixar has recently capitulated to big studio executives by producing sequels, backtracking on their past statements to avoid producing franchises. While Toy Story 3 is the extremely rare example of an excellent threequel, Cars 2 was nowhere near close to meeting Pixar's lofty standards. With this summer's Monsters University and the recent announcement of Finding Dory, a sequel to 2003's Finding Nemo, one has to wonder whether Pixar has finally run out of original ideas.
Paramount Pictures/Everett Collection
DreamWorks AnimationIf there's one thing DreamWorks knows how to do better than Pixar, it's cranking out big hit after big hit. The "House that Shrek Built" has made 13 more animated films than their rival, and they haven't been around as long. DreamWorks has earned $11 billion total worldwide with box office hits such as Madagascar and The Croods. Although the critical consensus has been Pixar offers the better movies, it's not like DreamWorks have been slouches either. The studio has been nominated nine times for the Best Animated Feature, with wins for Shrek and Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
DreamWorks also draws a lot of big names to provide the colorful voices of their animated creations. Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Brad Pitt are just a few actors who have lent their voices to DreamWorks. The studio is still keeping busy over the next couples with six releases that include sequels to How to Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda.
