Singer La Toya Jackson almost botched her business manager's attempt to whisk her away to Hawaii for a marriage proposal last year (13), because she was not interested in taking a vacation. Michael Jackson's 58-year-old sister became engaged to Jeffre Phillips last August (13), but she only went public with the news in June (14).
Now the bride-to-be admits it took a little extra persuading from her father Joe Jackson, who had granted Phillips' request for her hand in marriage, for her to jet off on a two-day holiday with her beau.
She explains, "Before he proposed to me... he went to (Las) Vegas and he asked my father for my hand (in marriage). It was great.
"Right after that, I had dinner with my father and my father was desperately trying to tell me that Jeffre has a surprise in Hawaii, that, 'You need to go to Hawaii'. I didn't wanna go to Hawaii, I wanted to go to New York to do the play that I was getting ready to do (Off Broadway show Newsical the Musical). I had two days to rehearse... and Jeffre kept convincing me, 'Toya, you need two days off, you need downtime.'"
She finally agreed and she was blown away one night when Phillips transformed their luxury hotel suite into an all-white affair with flowers everywhere as they sat down for a lavish six-course dinner.
She recalls, "I go, 'Oh my God, what is this?' And he goes, 'We're having dinner, (a) special dinner.'"
She continues, "When it got to dessert... he gets on his knee and he asks, he says... 'Toy, will you marry me?' I got so nervous... He said, 'I didn't get you a ring.' I said, 'Don't even worry about that, that's not important' and then I get my dessert, I lift the dome (cover) up and there's the ring in the dome."
However, Jackson admits she has already suffered from cold feet over the nuptials.
She adds, "Your friends get so excited for you and they were just pushing me and rushing me (into wedding planning)... and I started getting really nervous, I started thinking, 'Wow, this is really real...' I got a little bit of cold feet."

Actress Pamela Anderson penned a poem about splitting from husband Rick Salomon for a second time, confessing she knew it was "wrong from the start".
The former Baywatch beauty wed the film producer and poker professional in 2007, but the couple had the union annulled two months later. They called it quits yet again last week (03Jul14), when Anderson filed legal papers to end their marriage after just six months.
Now the actress has opened up about the split by sharing an emotional 1,200-word poem on her Facebook.com page. Although she never mentions him by name, she appears to question her decision to remarry Salomon, writing, "What have I done...? I knew it was wrong from the start - primitive - base instinct.. Never marry a rich man... A mirrored action. obsessive love... unhealthy, hopeless- knocked sideways"
Anderson, 47, continues to reflect on the broken relationship, admitting that she fell for the idealistic marriage she had hoped they would have, confessing, "I love being in love - but expectations, make it impossible to be happy- or satisfied... I've tried... so hard.. maybe it's not in fashion- Tradition...just seemed so romantic... I guess it's a used up ideal - or the old fashion... not modern... No man knows what to do with me- I blame myself"
"Against my better judgement- fell for it- dammit- it all backfired- It doesn't feel good to be used, neglected, ignored - controlled.... I'm not doing this- It's humiliating - I have to turn this around".
Anderson was also previously married to rockers Tommy Lee and Kid Rock, while Salomon became infamous for co-starring in Paris Hilton's sex tape, One Night in Paris.

George Clooney has written a column to blast reports suggesting his fiancee's mother is opposed to their marriage because of her religious beliefs.
The Ocean's Eleven star is usually tight-lipped about his private life but made an exception following the publication of an article which suggested Amal Alamuddin's Lebanese mum Baria is against the wedding because she wants the lawyer to marry into the Druze religion.
In the column, which was published in the USA Today newspaper on Wednesday (09Jul14), the actor publicly acknowledged his engagement for the first time while blasting the original story by Britain's Daily Mail.
Clooney writes, "I seldom respond to tabloids, unless it involves someone else and their safety or well being. The Daily Mail has printed a completely fabricated story about my fiancee's mother opposing our marriage for religious reasons. It says Amal's mother has been telling 'half of Beirut' that she's against the wedding. It says they joke about traditions in the Druze religion that end up with the death of the bride. Let me repeat that: the death of the bride."
"First of all, none of the story is factually true. Amal's mother is not Druze. She has not been to Beirut since Amal and I have been dating, and she is in no way against the marriage - but none of that is the issue."
"This lie involves larger issues. The irresponsibility, in this day and age, to exploit religious differences where none exist, is at the very least negligent and more appropriately dangerous. We have family members all over the world, and the idea that someone would inflame any part of that world for the sole reason of selling papers should be criminal... And when they put my family and my friends in harm's way, they cross far beyond just a laughable tabloid and into the arena of inciting violence."
Clooney and Alamuddin are reportedly set to wed in September (14).
Sir Paul McCartney helped a fan propose to his longtime girlfriend as he returned to the stage in New York over the weekend (05-06Jul14).
The Beatles legend, who took two months out from his world tour to recuperate from a viral infection in May (14), had double the reason to smile as he resumed his trek in Albany on Saturday (05Jul14), after spotting a pair of fans holding up signs which read, "He won't marry me 'til he meets you" and "I've got the ring and I'm 64."
McCartney invited the devotees, identified as John Dann and Claudia Rogers, up on stage and serenaded them, while Dann proposed to his partner.
British model Amy Willerton has confessed to major crushes on Game Of Thrones stars Emilia Clarke and Natalie Dormer. The former Miss Universe Great Britain, 21, has stripped for a sexy new FHM magazine photo spread and in the accompanying feature, she reveals she's got the hots for Dormer and her co-star Emilia Clarke.
She says, "I have a huge crush on Emilia Clarke, she's so fit. And Natalie Dormer, too. When I did the London Marathon, Natalie was next to me and I've fancied her since she was Anne Boleyn in The Tudors. It was pretty embarrassing.
"I just went, 'Holy crap, Natalie Dormer is stood next to me!' I turned around and went, 'Natalie, I love you!' And she knew who I was. I didn't want to tell her but in my head I was like, 'You have no idea how much I fancy you, I love you, I would marry you'.
"We'd make a fantastic couple and have lovely babies if we weren't both straight. It's good to still appreciate women though, and have a wife in your head."

Sir Elton John has urged religious leaders around the world to throw their support behind gay marriage because "times have changed".
The music superstar entered into a civil partnership with film producer David Furnish in his native Britain in 2005, and the couple is planning to marry next year (15) after gay marriage was officially legalised in the U.K. in March (14). Elton John has now declared religious institutions need to accept same-sex unions in order to cement equal rights for gay couples.
He tells Sky News, "The church hierarchy, the traditionalists, might be up in arms about it but times have changed. If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen. He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together and that is what the church should be about."
The Rocket Man star also lavished praise on Catholic leader Pope Francis, calling him "wonderful" and hailing him as a forward-thinking Pontiff, adding, "He's excited me so much by his humanity... He's taken everything down to the humility of faith. He's stripped it down to the bare bones and said it's all basically about love and inclusiveness. That has to be encouraged by the Church of England as well."
Actor Eric Dane proposed to his wife Rebecca Gayheart on a whim after she dared him to make her his wife. The Grey's Anatomy star reveals he was terrified to pop the question to Gayheart, but insists it was the best decision he made because the impulsive gesture led to a wedding that night.
He explains, "We were having dinner at a restaurant and she asked me if I ever did anything impulsive and I said, 'Like what? Ask someone to marry me?' and she said, 'Yeah, something like that,' and I said, 'Do you want to marry me...?'
"I was terrified and she said, 'Yes,' I said, 'Cheque,' we got the cheque, jumped in my car, we got the last flight out of Los Angeles to Las Vegas. We've been happily married ever since and we have two beautiful little girls."
The couple eloped in 2004. The stars are parents to daughters Billie, four, and Georgia, two.
A gay fan's marriage elaborate marriage proposal has helped land Australian pop star Betty Who a support slot on Katy Perry's Prism world tour. The 23-year-old singer, real name Jessica Newham, became an overnight Internet sensation in the U.S. last year (13) when devotee Spencer Stout used her song Somebody Loves You as the soundtrack to a flashmob video he made to ask his boyfriend Dustin Reeser to marry him.
The video was posted on YouTube.com and came to the attention of Perry and her managers, who have since decided to invite Betty Who to join the pop superstar on tour when she arrives in Australia later this year (Nov14).
The singer tells the Sydney Daily Telegraph, "No one had any idea that video would go totally insane viral. The boys found my song on Spotify and both loved and it has been the most beautiful thing to be a part of."
Betty Who will have more of a musical pedigree than the headliner when she tours with Perry - a prodigy, she moved to Michigan to study cello at the Interlochen Centre for the Arts. She also attended Berklee College Of Music in Massachusetts.
But she cannot wait to join Perry on tour, adding, "I was in a van with the band and my manager says, 'You have just been chosen to open for Katy Perry. In Australia.' Everyone went silent - that’s how you know something has totally blown me away."
