Jazz legend Duke Ellington's heirs have lost their longrunning legal battle for increased royalties after taking music publishers at EMI to court. The late musician's relatives have been fighting for more money from the publishing sales of the composer's work for the past four years, after alleging EMI executives breached a decades-old royalty contract by deducting 50 per cent of commissions for foreign sub-publishers before splitting the rest of the cash with them.
Their initial 2010 lawsuit was previously dismissed, but last month (Sep14), judges at New York's highest court agreed to hear the case to put an end to the dispute once and for all.
However, officials at the Court of Appeals have now ruled against reinstating the Ellington lawsuit, insisting EMI chiefs have not done anything wrong.
Rapper Tyga has dismissed reports suggesting he is dating Kim Kardashian's younger half-sister Kylie Jenner, insisting he's just a longtime friend of the family. The Rack City hitmaker has been photographed out and about with the 17 year old on numerous occasions following his split from his model fiancee Blac Chyna in August (14), prompting speculation they are a new couple.
However, Tyga is adamant there is nothing romantic about his liaisons with Jenner.
Asked if he and the model are dating, he tells Vibe magazine, "Kylie? Nah. See the thing about Kylie... I've known Kylie and the whole family for four years. I introduced Chyna to Kim about a year ago. So everybody's been cool, but like it's just so hard, their world is different.
"If somebody wanna hang out, cool, I'm not opposed to hanging out with somebody. I hang out with her (Kylie), her sister (Kendall), I hang out with Scott (Disick, Kourtney Kardashian's boyfriend) sometimes, I hang out with Khloe sometimes. But people wanna take the situation (with Kylie) to the next level."
The denial comes a week after Tyga appeared to have reconciled with Blac Chyna, the mother of his young son King Cairo, after she posted an intimate snap of the former couple in bed. The photo was later deleted.
Actress Melissa Mccarthy has dismissed recent reports suggesting she has signed on to star in the upcoming all-female reboot of Ghostbusters. The Emmy-winning actress is considered a frontrunner in the highly-anticipated remake of the sci-fi classic, because the film will be directed by Paul Feig, who helmed both her films Bridesmaids and The Heat.
However, during an appearance on comedienne Ellen DeGeneres' U.S. talk show on Monday (20Oct14), McCarthy dodged the TV presenter's questions about joining the Ghostbusters cast, and kept repeating, "I'm not in, I'm not in!"
If McCarthy is considered for a role in the reboot, she has a big advocate in her corner - her St. Vincent co-star Bill Murray, who starred in the original films.
He said, "Melissa (McCarthy) would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny... I like this girl Linda Cardellini a lot, and Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there."
Gillian Anderson and Lena Dunham have also expressed an interest in appearing in the film.

A crewmember working on the Late Show With David Letterman has been fired after allegedly attacking one of the programme's writers. Tony Mendez held cue-cards for the long-running chat show, but was dismissed following an alleged on-set brawl with Bill Scheft, an Emmy-nominated writer, on 9 October (14).
Mendez claims the incident was sparked when light-hearted banter turned nasty, telling the New York Post, "We (Letterman and Mendez) tell each other 'F**k you' and 'Hey a**hole.' He (Letterman) doesn't do that with anybody - but he feels comfortable with me... I realised that this is what Bill was doing. He was trying to create a wedge between us so Dave would think I was an a**hole. I just grabbed him by the shirt. He was very surprised. He didn't say a word. He was cowering, his eyes were real big, he probably peed a little bit on his pants."
Mendez admits he was wrong, explaining, "I know I shouldn't have put my hands on him but this has been coming for a long time."
He adds of his former boss Letterman, "Dave had nothing to do with this at all. He was oblivious to my problem with Bill Scheft... Dave has never let me down. He is the best, the most generous boss I have ever had. Dave would never do anything to harm me."
Pregnant Zoe Saldana has dismissed reports suggesting she's expecting twin boys, insisting she has no idea what gender her unborn babies will be. The Guardians of the Galaxy star has revealed she and her husband, Italian artist Marco Perego, do not want to know what sex their babies will be until they arrive into the world, and she is currently fighting off name suggestions from her extended passionate family members.
She tells U.S. chat show host Ellen DeGeneres, "My husband is very Italian and I'm very Latina, so every day we have messages from our parents that are just like, 'It should be Rocco, Giovanni, Luigi or Antonio Ramon Jose.
"We're kinda hippy. We want it to be, like, Lavender. No, I'm joking."

Singer John Legend has dismissed rumours his friend Jay Z is heading towards a split from wife Beyonce.
The showbiz supercouple has been under the spotlight in recent weeks amid reports their marriage is in trouble, but Legend, who has worked with the rapper on a number of tracks, is adamant his pal is not worried about the false gossip. Legend tells Jo Parkerson of British radio station Magic FM:
"I think all of us (friends) are aware of what people are saying and we probably care a little bit but we also know they don't know everything that's happening. And so when you hear all this speculation about Jay and Beyonce getting divorced... If you're Jay, you know the truth. "You can only let the rumours affect you so much... He knows the truth and he's pretty mellow as well. He's cool and collected and he knows how to take it all in his stride."
Paramore star Hayley Williams has dismissed rumours she is expecting her first child and blamed the pregnancy story on Internet "weirdos". Fans took to Twitter.com to congratulate the singer after pregnancy gossip surfaced earlier this week (beg13Oct14), but Williams has now moved to silence the speculation by insisting she is not having a baby with her longterm boyfriend, rocker Chad Gilbert.
In a post on Twitter, she writes, "Don't need no more 'Hayley's preggo' rumors (sic)... Ugh, internetting is so hard cause (of) weirdos and bullies (sic)."
Williams previously used Twitter to deny rumours she is engaged to Gilbert, who she has been dating since 2008.
Rapper Macklemore revisited his troubled past on Tuesday (14Oct14) by returning to a juvenile drug court in Seattle, Washington to celebrate the achievements of the programme's latest group of recovering addicts. The Same Love hitmaker, real name Ben Haggerty, surprised graduates and other guests with his appearance at the 20th anniversary of King County Drug Court, where he recalled the days when he was just a teen battling drug and alcohol issues.
Officials at the King County Drug Court offer eligible defendants the chance to enrol in drug treatment centres instead of spending time behind bars, and Macklemore admits he was grateful for the opportunity to clean himself up after being arrested at 15.
Introducing himself, the 31 year old said, "Hi, I'm Ben. And I'm an alcoholic."
He then explained his story and added, "Drug court gives people a way to get sober, to heal."
Charges filed against participants who complete the rehabilitation programme are subsequently dismissed.
