Superstar Madonna was dismissed from jury duty at a New York court on Monday (07Jul14), just two hours after her arrival. The Material Girl hitmaker was originally scheduled to fulfil her civic duty in May (14), but postponed the date due to illness.
On Monday, the singer, wearing black suit, black sunglasses and platform sandals, showed up at the 60 Centre Street venue accompanied by two court officers, three policemen, two bodyguards and an assistant, and was ushered upstairs to a private office for a meeting with the head clerk.
She was subsequently released without being interviewed for the panel.
Court spokesman David Bookstaver reveals Madonna was allowed to go free as officials already had plenty of prospective jurors for the day's cases and didn't want the Queen of Pop to create a distraction during the selection process.
However, he insisted her court appearance alone "really goes to show that everyone gets called".
Hollywood beauty Megan Fox plans to make just one movie a year to support her family after confessing she has lost her passion for acting since becoming a mother. The Transformers star welcomed her first child, son Noah, in September, 2012, and she became a mum for a second time earlier this year (Feb14), when she gave birth to a boy named Bodhi.
Fox, who is married to actor Brian Austin Green, reveals having two children so close in age means "total chaos" at home and she is still learning how to balance her time between her boys.
She tells Parents.com, "It's hard because I don't feel like I'm ever giving either one of them 100 per cent of my attention or 100 per cent of myself, so I carry a lot of guilt. Do they each understand how special they are and how much I love them...? It's hard to make each one feel like an individual when you have to raise them together and manage them together all of the time."
The actress, who is currently promoting the forthcoming live-action remake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, has not signed up to any new projects since Bodhi's arrival, and Fox admits she would rather focus on raising her kids than building on her career, because she struggles with the guilt that comes with being a working mother.
She explains, "I've never been an extraordinarily ambitious girl or career-oriented, but especially once I got pregnant with my first son and now (having) my second, it's so hard to be a working mom especially when your heart is not in your work, when your heart is with your family."
However, Fox insists she won't disappear from the big screen completely: "I have to make one movie a year because I have to invest in their future and I have to be able to pay their way through college and be able to provide for them."
She adds, "It's all about trying to spend as little time away from my kids as possible."
Actor Jason Biggs has defended his wife Jenny Mollen after she came under attack for revealing she once hired a prostitute to partake in a threesome for her husband's birthday in her new book.
The Crazy, Stupid, Love. star opens up about the incident in her novel I Like You Just The Way I Am: Stories About Me and Some Other People, and she shared details about the racy tale during an appearance on U.S. talk show The View on Tuesday (17Jun14). However, she came under fire for the saucy story from more reserved critics, with The View's guest co-host Candace Cameron Bure stating on Wednesday (18Jun14), "How is that a great story? I'm sorry, (but) how is hiring a hooker for your husband's birthday, how is having threesomes, how is that celebrated? I have a hard time finding the humour in that, as a woman who has been married for 18 years."
The comments irked Biggs and now the American Pie actor is fighting back. During his own appearance on The View on Thursday (19Jun14), he explained, "It was, for us, hilarious and we are very open people, we are real people, we are honest, my wife is amazing and this is not an habitual thing on our part..."
Biggs also defended Mollen against claims that she was embarrassed to discuss the ordeal on the family-friendly daytime talk show because she is a different person in private than she is in public. He added, "My wife is incredibly real... she was in a circumstance that didn't allow for her to say these things."
The controversy comes days after Biggs slammed the newsmakers at U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America for dedicating a full segment to celebrity "over-sharing" because they felt his baby announcement in February (14) was over the top.
The new parents had documented baby Sid's arrival by chronicling every stage from labour to delivery on their Instagram.com accounts.
U.S. reality TV star Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino has been charged with assault following an alleged altercation at a tanning salon. The former Jersey Shore castmember was arrested on Tuesday (17Jun14) at his family-owned Boca salon in New Jersey following reports of a fight.
Sorrentino, 31, was detained and charged with simple assault. He was later released on a $500 (£313) bail bond.
Police spokesman Detective Lieutenant Stephen Dollinger tells the Los Angeles Times, "At approximately 2:10 p.m, our officers responded to a 911 call at the Boca tanning salon in reference to a fight in progress. Upon arrival, the officers arrested Mike Sorrentino for simple assault. He was processed and released after posting $500 bail."
A court hearing had yet to be scheduled as WENN went to press.
Country star Taylor Swift has picked up a few new recipes from her culinary idol Ina Garten after enjoying a special lunch date with her for America's Food Network Magazine. The Love Story hitmaker, a keen baker who owns all of the TV chef's recipe books, was recently invited to join Garten at her home in The Hamptons, New York for the publication's first-ever Music Issue.
The singer, who was accompanied by her mother Andrea Finlay and brother Austin Swift, was served freshly-baked date bread upon her arrival, before the Barefoot Contessa show host taught the 24 year old how to make a mustard-roasted fish and decorate a Pavlova meringue dessert with whipped cream.
Garten also served Swift her first whiskey sour drink as they bonded over their shared frustration for guests who refuse to eat.
The blonde beauty revealed, "I'll cook for these boys, and they'll be like, 'I'm on a diet'. I'm like, 'I can't hang out with you.'"
The stars ended their lunch meeting by forgoing plates and digging straight into the Pavlova, with Garten quipping, "I don't always eat it this way!"
Swift also invited Garten to visit her new Manhattan apartment and attend one of her future concerts.
Swift isn't the only celebrity to take part in the July/August (14) Music issue - Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan teamed up with chef Jeff Mauro, rapper Ja Rule cooked with Geoffrey Zakarian and rocker Sammy Hagar took over the kitchen with Michael Symon.
All the way back in Season 2 of Game of Thrones, Maester Luwin of Winterfell tells Bran Stark, "Maybe magic once was a mighty force in the world, but not anymore. The dragons are gone, the giants are dead, and the Children of the forest forgotten." But so far, the late Maester has been mistaken on nearly all accounts: Daenerys' dragons are terrorizing the skies of Meereen. Jon Snow warded of giants in the battle of Castle Black. And as we saw in this week's Season 4 finale, the Children, while still forgotten, are still living way up in the North. It can be easy to forget after spending so much time mired in the messy human politics of King's Landing, but magic is still the real force turning the gears of Westeros. In "The Children," we are introduced (or re-introduced) to some of the most important magical entities in Game of Thrones. So who were all these bizarre creatures?
The Children of the Forest First Mentioned: Season 2In This Episode: Bran is saved from a gang of Wights (more on that later) by a fairy-grenade chucking member of the Children named Leaf. What Are They: These diminutive, human-like creatures were the original inhabitants of Westeros, and they predate the arrival of the First Men by thousands of years. The children inhabited the great stretches of forests that made up much of Westeros before men arrived to create their own civilizations. They are believed to be the ones that carved the faces into the weirwood trees seen in different locations throughout the continent. They are also believed to have supplied the Night's Watch with weapons made of dragonglass, a substance akin to obsidian and the only material proven able to kill a White Walker (Sam uses a dragonglass spear tip to kill the White Walker in Season 3). Over the years, the children have faded into myth and legend, but a few (such as Maester Luwin) believe that they really did exist once upon a time, but are long gone.
The Wights First Seen: Season 1 In This Episode: The Wights are the skeleton creatures that attacked Bran, Jojen, Hodor, and Meera near the big weirwood tree. What Are They: There has been much confusion among TV watchers about the difference between White Walkers and Wights. The White Walkers are a mythological race entirely separate from humans, while the wights are the reanimated corpses of dead humans that serve as minions to the White Walkers. Wights are brought to life by White Walker magic, and any dead person is susceptible to the transformation unless his or her body is burned (which is why Jon Snow has been so burn-happy with all the dead bodies as of late). Their bodies exhibit various stages of decay that correspond roughly to how decomposed one's corpose was when transformed. The Wights are largely mindless, but are not susceptible to dragonglass weapons like their White Walker masters.
The Three-Eyed Raven First Mentioned: Season 1 In This Episode: The three-eyed raven is the old man seen in the cave after Bran escapes the Wight attack. What is he: Getting into exactly who and what the three-eyed raven actually is would border on spoiler territory, but we can tell you that the raven is an entity that has been watching Bran with interest for a long time now, and that he has a very close connection with the Children of the Forest. After Bran loses the ability to walk in the first season, Much of his storyline has involved the presence of a three-eyed raven, an image that has visited him multiple times during his dreams. It was the raven that led him to the Stark family crypt right after his father died. After meeting Jojen and Meera Reed, Bran is spurred north by visions of the three-eyed raven and a giant weirwood tree, which he reaches at the end of last night's episode. Let's just say that the three-eyed raven has huge plans for Bran going forward.

He told People.com, "We have blocked time off from the tour on either side of the due date. I wouldn't miss that for anything."
The newborn is Nichols' third daughter - he and Heather are also parents to two-year-old Dylan, while the star has another girl, teenager Ashelyn, from a previous relationship.
The couple wed in 2007.
