Actress/singer Jennifer Lopez is expanding her presence on TV after landing a new role as an undercover cop in an upcoming drama. The star will play the lead role in Shades of Blue, a new crime show focusing on a single-mother detective who is recruited to work for the FBI.
Jennifer Salke, of America's NBC TV network, says, "Jennifer is an extraordinary talent and life force, and we're delighted to be in business with her... We're especially excited that Jennifer is returning to her acting roots... and we know that she will create this complicated character in a vivid way that will breathe new life into the cop show genre."
Production is expected to begin next year (15).
Lopez began her career on TV as a dancer for sketch show In Living Color, but she has most recently been seen on the small screen as part of TV talent competitions such as American Idol and her own Latin show Q'Viva! The Chosen.
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are at the centre of a lawsuit after a man came forward alleging the former couple used his idea to create their reality TV competition Q'viva! The Chosen. The series, which premiered in the U.S. in 2012, shows the singers travelling throughout South America searching for talented entertainers for a new Latin-style Las Vegas production.
John Jacobs has now filed a lawsuit in New York against Marc Anthony Productions and Lopez's Nuyorican Productions, claiming he contacted both companies to pitch his show, Miami Beach: The Game, in 2007 and 2008, according to TMZ.com.
The premise of Jacobs' series' was to feature two well-known Latin celebrities who would travel far and wide to find the next big superstar.
He alleges that representatives from both companies expressed interest in his idea, but later ignored all correspondence with him.
Jacobs is seeking $25 million (£16.7 million) from Anthony and Lopez. The stars have yet to comment on the case.
Marc Anthony has officially decided to end his marriage to Jennifer Lopez. The 43-year-old singer filed for divorce from Lopez, 42, on April 9 in Los Angeles, Calif.
The couple announced that they were separating in July 2011 — and in the divorce document, Anthony lists irreconcilable differences as the cause for the split. He is seeking joint physical and legal custody of their 4-year-old twins Max and Emma. And, Lopez won't be able to ask for support from Anthony according to his request.
While Anthony and Lopez's marriage has come to an end, they will still continue to work together on Q'Viva! The Chosen (their Latin talent show).
Hollywood.com has reached out to J Lo's rep for comment, but we have yet to hear back.

JLo & Marc Anthony To Reunite on Stage
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are gearing up to spend one wild night together — on stage that is. The divorced couple have announced they'll be performing together on May 26 in Las Vegas as part of Q'Viva! The Chosen Live, which will feature the top talent from their televised show.
As of lately, JLo has been "tied up" so to speak, with her 24-year-old beau, Casper Smart, so it will be interesting to see if he will be one of the many fans in attendance for the ex-duos big night. Lopez shared her excitement with Us Weekly and commented on how much she's looking forward to seeing their network dream come to fruition.
"Q'VIVA! has been an incredible journey for us. It fulfilled our vision to share and celebrate the people, the culture, the music and artistry of Latin America though this global broadcast," the 42-year-old singer remarks. "And now, Q'VIVA! the LIVE show will be the culmination of that journey."
The show was conceived when Anthony and Lopez were a couple, and even after they announced their breakup last year, they decided to go ahead as the show's hosts. So apparently not all Hollywood marriages have to end in disaster. Let's just hope Smart doesn't get too jealous about it.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony Split
The singer/actress split from salsa star Anthony in July (11) and Lopez broke her silence about the breakdown of her third marriage to Vanity Fair magazine in August (11), claiming she "really worked hard" to save their relationship.
She said, "Sometimes we don't realise that we are compromising ourselves. To understand that a person is not good for you, or that that person is not treating you in the right way, or that he is not doing the right thing for himself - if I stay, then I am not doing the right thing for me. I love myself enough to walk away from that now."
Lopez has not spoken in detail about the split since, and she has warned reporters not to ask her to explain her Vanity Fair quotes - because it was the one and only time she was prepared to open up about her heartache.
During an interview on U.S. breakfast show Today on Monday (30Jan12), she said, "Everything I wanted to say about the divorce I said in that article. And Marc and I agreed that we're not gonna talk about it publicly again because it really is our personal lives. We have children and it's something that we just have to respect and keep sacred.
"It's not the easiest thing in the world but we handled it with a lot of grace, a lot of caring and a lot of love."
The estranged couple recently reunited to continue working on and promoting its new reality TV show Q'Viva - The Chosen, which Lopez and Anthony host and produce.
Lopez insists they remain on good terms when it comes to their working relationship, although she admits the pair "had its moments" on set.
She added, "Marc and I were friends before we got married. We were friends for years, and we always loved each other. And we always worked together, so it wasn't an unnatural thing for us to continue working together... It's really a passion project for us.
"Even though it has its difficult moments, it's still a great thing that we're doing, that we feel that we're doing. We have our moments, we're human, but, at the end of the day, there is real love there and there is a family there, and that comes first."
Silvio Horta, who was executive producer and head writer for Ugly Betty, will write the pilot for Lopez's as-yet-untitled family show, which centres around three sisters and their Latino family.
Both Horta and Lopez will serve as executive producers for the FOX series.
It is not the only project TV Lopez is currently involved with - she is also working on Latin talent show Q'viva! The Chosen with her estranged husband Marc Anthony and she has signed up to judge a second season of American Idol.

It left fans taken aback and confused by this seemingly sudden separation. When did they start having problems? Who made the decision to end it? And more importantly, what was the cause? If you were hoping for a shocking revelation to go with this interview, you were probably disappointed. Anthony claimed the split was simply because their marriage didn't work anymore. He stated, "It was a realization on both our parts. So you know it wasn't shocking. These things happen. It was a decision that we made jointly." And as for the rumors about whether the marriage ended because of infidelity, the singer replied, "absolutely not," adding that "It wasn't something sensationalistic happening." He also went on to say that he will continue to work on the reality show, called Q'Viva! The Chosen, that co-stars his now estranged wife. While it's sad that things didn't work out, Anthony said he's ready to move on and thinks others should do the same: "This is not a funeral. This is not a burial. This is just two people who came together and just realized – and so I'm saying that it wasn't sustainable the way it was, and that's that."
