Michael Jackson will be brought back to life for one night only at the Billboard Music Awards as part of a world premiere experience planned by the King of Pop's estate. The late pop superstar will rise up and 'appear' at the ceremony in Las Vegas on 18 May (14), with Billboard organisers insisting it will be "like you’ve never seen him before".
It has not been revealed exactly how Jackson's comeback will be staged at the awards show, but reports suggest he'll appear in hologram form, as Tupac Shakur did at the Coachella festival in California in 2012.
The awards ceremony will take place days after the release of Jackson's posthumous album, Xscape. The first single from the album, Love Never Felt So Good, premiered at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on 1 May (14) - and the track has since been released as duet with Justin Timberlake.
The Jackson "experience" will be one of many highlights planned for the 2014 Billboard Music Awards - Miley Cyrus will perform via satellite, while the night's Icon Award winner Jennifer Lopez, Jason DeRulo and Carrie Underwood will also play live.
Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan are set to headline the inaugural iHeartRadio Music Festival in Austin, Texas. The popular iHeartRadio concert has gathered the hottest pop music artists in Las Vegas over the past few years, and now the stars of country are getting their own festival.
Concert promoters have announced the very first iHeartRadio Country Festival, which will be held on 29 March (14) in the Lone Star State's capital city.
Underwood, who played at the very first iHeartRadio festival in 2011, along with Kenny Chesney and Rascal Flatts, shares her excitement for the upcoming event in a statement that reads: "It's going to be a big party for all of us. I've been lucky enough in my life to go to lots of different other genre concerts as a fan, and I think I would rather be in a country crowd than any other crowd, just because they're fun, they're singing along, they're dancing, everybody's cool to one another."
Also taking the stage with Underwood and Bryan are Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Lady Antebellum, Jake Owen, and Hunter Hayes.
Comedienne Rebel Wilson was banned from introducing Miley Cyrus to fans at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas last weekend (21Sep13) after the pop star's managers objected to the jokes she had prepared. The Pitch Perfect star was set to appear as a presenter during Saturday's events to welcome Britney Spears and Cyrus to the stage, but she was cut from the show after apparently offending the We Can't Stop hitmaker's handlers with her planned speech, which referenced the 20 year old's raunchy 'twerking'-style dance moves.
She explains, "(Her) management got a copy of my jokes and then I was banned. But the jokes weren't that bad! It was like, 'Miley Cyrus got to the top through her raw talent and hard Twerk.' It wasn't even that bad!"
Spears ended up replacing Wilson to announce the former Hannah Montana star's arrival to the stage.
Pop star Ke$Ha thrilled the crowd at a music festival in Las Vegas on Saturday night (21Sep13) by performing with rock legend Joan Jett. The TiK ToK hitmaker was on the bill for the iHeartRadio Fest in Sin City over the weekend (21-22Sep13), along with stars including Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake, but she had an extra special surprise in store for the audience.
After performing her hit Die Young, Ke$ha introduced music veteran Jett to the stage for a rendition of the rocker's classic 1980 hit Bad Reputation.
Ke$ha previously hinted about a "surprise" she had planned for the show in posts on her Twitter.com page in the run up to the gig.
Pop star Robin Thicke suffered a series of embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions while on stage at a music festival in Las Vegas on Friday (20Sep13). The Blurred Lines hitmaker was among the acts performing at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Sin City, but he was left red-faced when he realised a button had popped off his shirt, leaving his midriff exposed.
The blunder was pointed out by a photographer stationed in front of the stage, and the star attempted to tuck his shirt into his pants to cover himself up.
However, he suffered another mishap later on in the show when his pants became unzipped, but he was able to laugh off the incident with presenter Ryan Seacrest after he finished singing, according to Eonline.com.
Thicke's performance was introduced by Sean 'Diddy' Combs and the rapper hopped back on stage afterwards to shake the singer's hand.
Miley Cyrus proved she has no plans to tone down her saucy onstage antics in the aftermath of her controversial MTV Video Music Awards performance by taking to the stage at a festival in Las Vegas with her breasts and backside on display. The former child star, who provoked a storm of criticism over her saucy show with Robin Thicke at the MTV awards show in August (13), was among the headliners at the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival on Saturday night (21Sep13) at Sin City's MGM Grand Garden Arena, and she stunned the audience by performing in another barely-there outfit.
Cyrus, who was introduced by pop superstar Britney Spears, took to the stage wearing nothing but skimpy panties and nipple pasties under a completely see-through mesh dress.
The provocative show was a contrast to her earlier performance at the festival during the day on Saturday, when she made her return to the stage for the first time since confirming her split from fiance Liam Hemsworth.
Cyrus' voice cracked during an emotional rendition of her latest single Wrecking Ball, and she was seen with tears streaming down her face. She also brought several small people on stage with her to perform her signature 'twerking' dance move during the early set.
The festival's line-up also included Justin Timberlake, Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John and Katy Perry.
Fun. star Nate Ruess is set to become the latest singer to front Queen when he joins the band at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas this weekend, according to reports. Sources tell Billboard.com the pop star will reportedly sing Somebody to Love and Fat Bottomed Girls during the group's performance at the event, which will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
He'll share the mic with Adam Lambert, who became Queen's regular stand-in singer last year (12).
Ruess will also hit the stage with fun. on Friday night (20Sep13), when Katy Perry, Elton John, Keith Urban, Muse, Tiesto and Chris Brown will also perform.
Paul McCartney, Justin Timberlake, Drake, Miley Cyrus and Bruno Mars will be among the stars headlining the event on Saturday (21Sep13).
Fiona Apple is beautiful, scarily talented, and a wonderful performer, but whatever you do, do not be predictable around her. At the end of August, after the crowd at her performance for the Louis Vuitton Timeless Muses party in Tokyo wouldn’t simmer down, Apple climbed atop her piano and told the audience to “shut the f**k” up. Shockingly, the crowd failed to stop talking after Apple's polite request, so she yelled, “Predictable! Predictable fashion, what the f**k?,” and stormed off the stage.
In honor of her dramatic walkout, here’s a look at 5 other stars that are in the running for Drama Queen of the Music World.
Axl Rose What would a walkout list be without Axl Rose? Rose has always had a tense relationship with his fans and has been the muse of many bottle-throwings, riots, and boos. A paradigm of the temperamental rock star, he’s walked off of stages and caused riots since 1992. His latest stage fit was in 2010 at a concert in Dublin. After the crowd refused to stop throwing bottles onto the stage, Rose walked off the stage. Before you go full-on Team Axl, though, let it be noted that Rose had taken the stage ninety minutes late.
Billie Joe Armstrong In 2012, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong famously entertained the crowd at the iHeartRadio festival with a glorious tirade protesting the fact that their set was cut by twenty minutes, courtesy of Usher’s long performance. After being told that they only had one minute left for their performance, Armstrong began ranting about how he’s been around since “198-f**king-8” so people should respect him, since he’s not “f**king Justin Bieber” (I would hope not, the mere legality of that is questionable). Armstrong smashed his guitar on stage a few times before walking off the stage and into a PR-mandated rehab.
Morrissey Morrissey is no stranger to cooking up a storm of controversy, and his 2009 Coachella performance was no different. Offended by the smell of barbecued meat wafting through the air, the rocker stopped his set and said, “I can smell burning flesh and I hope to God it’s human.” Morrissey walked off the stage, only to return a few minutes later and restart his performance, explaining, “The smell of burning animals is making me sick. I just couldn’t bear it.” Frustrating as it may have been, at least Morrissey came back and only wanted humans to be burning alive instead of animals.
Caleb Followill Kings of Leon have may as well have the word “Drama” in front of their band name. The band famously walked off a St. Louis stage in 2010 after getting attacked by a vicious gang of pigeons who flew around pooping on the band (not the fans), and reportedly even pooped in bassist Jared Followill’s mouth. Clearly the pigeons weren’t fans of the band, and KOL walked off after only 3 songs. In 2011, though, lead singer Caleb Followill walked out of a Dallas show, even though not one pooping pigeon was seen. Claiming he was just dehydrated because of the heat and needed a beer, Followill angered many fans by not returning to the stage, even though he said he would. Brother Jared Followill told the booing crowd to “F**king hate Caleb, not us.” There’s that brotherly support.
Jack White Jack White played a show in 2012 at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall, only to walk off the stage after fifty-five minutes. Many rumors/explanations were going around as to why White left the show early, none of which made sense. Some said that White was upset because the audience didn’t seem as they were into the show, since at one point White asked the crowd, “Jesus Christ, is this an NPR convention?” (maybe someone should’ve told White that even if they wanted to, audiences can’t get up out of their seats or dance around in aisles at the Radio City Music Hall?). Others stated that White is a perfectionist and was frustrated with the sound quality because that’s “rock and roll.” Did someone change the definition of rock and roll and forget to tell the rest of us?

Liam Hemsworth has been photographed kissing Mexican singer/actress Eiza Gonzalez, just a day after his split from fiancee Miley Cyrus was made public. The former Hannah Montana star ended months of speculation about their rocky romance on Monday (16Sep13) by announcing that she and Australian actor Hemsworth had called off their engagement after almost four years together.
The news emerged two days after The Hunger Games hunk was snapped flirting with Gonzalez at a Las Vegas nightclub on Saturday (14Sep13), and it appears a new relationship is already blossoming after they arranged to meet up again in California.
They spent time together on Monday and on Tuesday (17Sep13), Hemsworth was spotted at Gonzalez's Beverly Hills apartment block, where they were caught on camera kissing before the actor headed to his car and drove off.
Gonzalez, 23, reportedly moved to Los Angeles earlier this summer (13), after breaking up with her boyfriend to pursue a career in Hollywood, according to Eonline.com.
Meanwhile, Cyrus, 20, is preparing to put her love troubles behind her by heading to Sin City this weekend (21Sep13) to perform at the iHeartRadio music festival, alongside the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and Drake.
Miley Cyrus will put her romance split behind her when she takes the stage at the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas this weekend (21Sep13). A representative for Cyrus confirmed the pop star and actress' engagement to fiance Liam Hemsworth was over on Monday (16Sep13), and now the singer is putting her heartbreak on ice as she prepares to perform in Sin City on Saturday.
The big gig will include her first live performance of new single Wrecking Ball.
Cyrus will join Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and Drake among the performers at iHeartRadio, while Britney Spears will serve as a presenter.
