"I get the homeless thing a lot. There was one time I was sitting outside a bank, waiting for a mate. I'm just sitting there in flip flops and shorts and... a little old lady walks out, she seems a bit down, so I'm like, 'G'day hun, how are ya?', trying to cheer her up. I get a little smile out of her so I'm feeling good about myself... She walks about 20 yards past me and she comes back and goes, 'Here you go, son', gives me a dollar. I kept it... I didn't wanna make her feel like she insulted me and obviously, I don't care, it's free money!" Bearded Vikings star Travis Fimmel has no problem pocketing a few extra bucks whenever he is mistaken for a homeless person.
Taylor Swift has helped a heartbroken fan by curating a playlist to cheer her up after a recent split.
The Love Story hitmaker received a message from a user named Kasey on blog site Tumblr.com on Tuesday (10Feb15), in which the upset fan explained that her boyfriend of four months had dumped her via text message and then hounded her to take him back.
Swift responded by posting a lengthy message of encouragement, writing, "Oh my God, I know. It's so devastating to come to terms with speaking of someone in past tense when you used to see them as your present and your future... I know it's hard but I think it's time to utilize the 'block' feature on your phone. This is just damaging... So don't give him the chance to say more damaging things... Protect yourself, please. I'm so sorry this happened. I made you a break up/moving on playlist."
The tracks on Swift's playlist include songs by Charli XCX, HAERTS, Misterwives, Azure Ray and Measure.
Jennifer Lawrence, Niall Horan and Colin Farrell were among the stars who took time out of celebrating over Christmas to visit sick kids in hospital. Actress Lawrence stunned young patients at the Kosair Children's Hospital in her native Louisville, Kentucky on Christmas Eve (24Dec14) when she turned up unexpectedly for a visit.
The Hunger Games star, who served as an assistant nurse before she became a star, posed with kids and staff for photos, which were posted on Twitter.com.
The actress made a similar visit to the same hospital last year (13).
Meanwhile, One Direction star Horan and actor Farrell both visited Dublin's Crumlin Hospital in Ireland.
The singer brought a little Christmas cheer to kids on Tuesday (23Dec14). Staff posted pictures on Facebook.com and one nurse wrote, "For our patients it was a dream come true to meet the one and only Niall Horan... We'd like to say a huge thank you to Niall for visiting Crumlin Hospital and for putting huge smiles on all our patient's faces. You've really made this a Christmas to be remembered."
Farrell quietly visited the children's hospital on Christmas Day (25Dec14), thrilling parents and patients alike.
One stunned dad, who posed for a photo with the A Winter's Tale star, posted the snap on Facebook.com and wrote, "Colin Farrell comes in every Christmas Day for the last few years to visit the kids - no press - no photographers - just him and pressies. What a gent."
Jamie Foxx is the self-styled king of Christmas parties after blowing $40,000 (£25,000) on lights for a festive bash. The Ray star is a big fan of the festive season and every year he throws a huge celebration for his family and friends.
The first year he hosted his annual party he was shocked at the size of the organiser's bill, but he has continued to spend big to spread some seasonal cheer.
He says, "I am the King of Christmas! For 18 years I've been throwing the best party and my house looks like Disneyland. The lights take about a month to put up and he explains, "You get burned the first few times you do it... The first time I did it, the guy charged me $40,000. I said, 'My man, it's just lights...!' So now we save the lights (to reuse each year). Now we got our process down."
And Foxx has helped decorate his close pal Robert Downey, Jr's house with a top-of-the-range Christmas light display just like his after the Iron Man star grew jealous of the actor/singer's festive features.
The Ray star reveals Downey, Jr. was so impressed with his light show, he demanded the details of Foxx's electrical expert.
He says, "Robert Downey, Jr. came over and he was like, 'Dude, here's the deal: what's with the lights? I need them.' And so the guy who did my lights, Manny, who works at my crib (house), this year he went and did Robert Downey, Jr.'s too."
U.S. reality TV star-turned-fashion designer Lauren Conrad spread some Christmas cheer at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) over the weekend (ends21Dec14) by sprucing up on-call rooms for overworked doctors and medical staff. The Hills star donated items from her LC Lauren Conrad homeware collection including bedding, decorations and gifts, to help make Christmas more homely for doctors and nurses working through the festive period.
Conrad teamed up with a CHLA patient called Emily to execute the heart-warming project.
She tells US Weekly magazine,"We got to fix up some of the on-call rooms which was really cool especially during the holidays. I think that all the doctors here work so hard to make everybody else so comfortable, it's nice to be able to do something for them.
"We definitely wanted to make it a gender neutral room which was great to do with the line because the LC Lauren Conrad line does tend to skew more feminine, but it was nice to have the opportunity to put the pieces into a room that worked for men as well."
Emily added, "The doctors deserve this so when they come in they'll feel welcome - they work so hard and have to stay overnight."
Rockers Kiss will celebrate their 40th anniversary on the high seas next year (15) after announcing plans to perform their classic 1975 live album Alive! in its entirety as part of the fifth Kiss Kruise. It reads: "The time has come to take on your next mission which will surely be the most epic adventure the high seas have ever seen - the Kiss Kruise V!
"We’re going back to the golden age when Kiss rose to prominence, taking the world by storm."
The Kiss Kruise V will travel between Miami and Jamaica.
The band has yet to name any support acts.
British pop stars Emma Bunton and Nicola Roberts paid sick children a visit at a leading London hospital's Christmas party on Tuesday (16Dec14). They were joined by fellow pop stars Rochelle and Marvin Humes to spread some festive cheer at the Great Ormond Street Hospital bash.
Former Spice Girls star Bunton was seen cuddling up to a young girl in a wheelchair as they posed for pictures, and she later wrote on Twitter.com, "Always amazing to see everyone @GreatOrmondSt Christmas party! you all, you're all so strong and brave."
Girls Aloud singer Roberts sat down and helped the children decorate some cakes while posing for photographs with the patients, and The Saturdays singer Rochelle Humes later tweeted, "Lovely afternoon at the @GreatOrmondSt Christmas party. Thanks so much for having us! So lovely to see you all x"
British pop star Ellie Goulding will be showing her charitable side on Christmas Eve (24Dec14) by handing out hot meals at a local homeless shelter.
The Burn hitmaker, who performed in the U.K. capital on Tuesday (16Dec14) to raise money for the Streets of London charity, which supports the homeless, cannot bear the thought of sleeping rough over the festive period. She is determined to help spread a bit of holiday cheer this Christmas so she is joining a charity near her London home to volunteer for their food bank.
Goulding tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "I'm volunteering all day at a shelter. I've done it for a few years. It's fun and part of the reason I run my gigs... It's not just people who are homeless in the shelters but also those who are lonely and don't have someone to spend the time with. I was chatting to a guy last year who was a musician from Africa who had found himself homeless. The thought of someone not having a Christmas... It's so scary because it happens so quickly and to anyone. It could be any of us."
British actor Tom Hiddleston has surprised fans with a little festive treat after teaming up with country singer Rodney Crowell for a rendition of We Wish You A Merry Christmas. The Thor star is currently holed up in Nashville, Tennessee working on his portrayal as country icon Hank Williams, Sr. in forthcoming biopic, I Saw the Light, and he recently enjoyed an impromptu carol session with Crowell, who portrays his onscreen father, Elonzo Huble 'Lon' Williams.
A representative from Crowell's management team has since shared video footage of the sweet acoustic sing-a-long on YouTube.com, in which Hiddleston is featured holding a black and white dog, named Mono, in his lap.
The video caption reads: "Rodney Crowell and Tom Hiddleston, working on the soundtrack for 'I Saw the Light' take a short break to spread some holiday cheer at Rodney's studio with his wonder dog, Mono."
Crowell is also serving as Hiddleston's vocal coach and working on the film as an executive music producer.
